Cheap ....they had to put out $$$ for that first pick of the draft. Predictably they will add in players slowly and be almost competitive. We have seen this before. The Bengals have had good QBs....it's the owner that's the problem.

Yes, the Bengals will never get to the promised land as long as MB is the owner.

Living here for longer than I like to think about, I've developed friendships with folks close to the Brown family. My Brother in Law is tight with Mike and they have lunch a couple times a year.

This is from a die-hard Bengals fan and a good synopsis of what goes on in the front office:

I spoke with a friend of my brother's last night, who as part of his job had worked for both the Bengals and FC Cincinnati; the Bengals for the last ten years. He told me he just severed his working ties with the Bengals. When I asked what the organization is like, he said "The NFL is the biggest and most influential sports league in the US, and I voluntarily stopped working in it. That tells you how I feel about the team." He said in the ten years he worked for them, he never, ever heard anyone in management talk about the fans, and he never heard anyone in management talk about wanting to win a championship. Compare that with FC Cincinnati, where he said they talk about the fans and how they can keep their fans every time there is a meeting. I want a regime change!

Early-drafted QBs have been starting pretty much right away for teams, for over 50 years.
ok, that's "a survey" as you said and not the whole list. looking at the WHOLE LIST of first-round QBs from 1978-2019 (16 game season era):

    Before 2008:
22% started 3/4 of their first season
6% started their whole first season (Jim Kelly, Rick Mirer, Peyton Manning, David Carr)

    From 2008 onward:
60% started 3/4 of their first season
26% started their whole first season (Joe Flacco, Matt Ryan, Sam Bradford, Cam Newton, Andrew Luck, Ryan Tannehill, Jameis Winston, Carson Wentz, Kyler Murray)

sorry Jim, there actually is a big difference between the way first-round QBs were handled pre-Flacco/Ryan. i'm not saying it didn't happen at all, but it was very rare to trot your 1st round QB out there to start week 1

Lol, a lot of Steeler fans I know have been telling me that Diontae Johnson is better than Hollywood and he will be the new AB...I have yet to see Diontae make a play in 2020. I have seen him make a lot of blunders.
