I know there was speculation about him not doing so well or having a botched surgery or something back in Feb/March time frame? But, didn't the NK gov come out and say that he was fine, he was just "vacationing"?

I could be wrong because NK in general is like a black box and almost impossible to predict what they will do, Kim Jong Un at least was somewhat westernized and we had some inroads with him. Rodman isn't much but it was something. Trump had started to get to know him. With a new woman back to square one. I'm thinking If I'm China the more backward NK stays the better for them.

Their nightmare scenario is something like Kim Jong Un embraces the US and South Korea. Status quo and/or someone they can control is better for them.

I think he was seen in public once since March when there was all the speculation. Maybe this is the early "Christmas surprise" he spoke of.

If true not gonna bode well for the world. From what I've been able to gather his sister is heir apparent and she is more hard line than him.
