    Re: ‘Compliance Would Be Disobedience’

I'm kind of ADD and as much as I would like to go to church it has always kind of hurt. I occasionally go to my local parish (when it's not easter or christmas) that I was forced to go to every Sunday (or Sat night) until I was 18, and there is always something that immediately pisses me off.

Maybe my problem isn't church but Catholic Church. Dry, ritualistic, repetitive, priests that are old as the knight in Indiana Jones and the last Crusade or that I can't understand and lame, lame, lame sermons... The one time I went to a Mega Church with a GF that cried when I talked about dinosaurs but would still **** my **** and was okay with that it was weird to me. That time reminded me now of the 4 Christmases church with Dwight Yokum... GREAT production values, lol. They were rocking the house. That might at least hold my attention. ...

Oh yeah, I'm remembering how annoyed I got when the pastor at my old GFs church talked about how he could put a monkey in front of a typewriter for a million years and it would type anything intelligible..... Now I remember why I can't do that.

Not that I don't want to be spiritual or rediscover church and the beauty of Christian mythology, things like that just make me angry.

I'm enjoying this long distance church thing we have going now. A church I go to when I'm in London has their services on Facebook every Sunday morning so I get to go to worship with them, then go to my home church service a bit later.

I would say it would be pretty unlikely that a just God would command that you violate his commandments.

And that interpretations of scripture outside these bounds need to be reconciled with reason.
Anyhow, in this case, the idea of meeting at a distance and/or small groups in people's houses isn't generally looked at as a violation of divine law. That's how the church met its first few centuries after all.

I have found the quality of priest/pastor to be huge when finding a church. Typically it is recommended to visit a few to find one that fits. I will say finding that fit does seem to be harder in a catholic church for me. Like you said, dry and ritualistic.

We had one guy in all my time at my local Parish that I was happy with. I think the lack of inspirational priests is a function of the sclerosis of the Catholic Church in general. I may try one of the local large non-denominational churches for the heck of it one of these days. See if it's still possible to be moved by church.

It’s not up to Nevada to interpret divine law. They are supposed to uphold us law and state law.

    Gorsuch dissent was spot On.

JUSTICE GORSUCH, dissenting from denial of application for injunctive relief.
This is a simple case. Under the Governor’s edict, a 10- screen “multiplex” may host 500 moviegoers at any time. A casino, too, may cater to hundreds at once, with perhaps six people huddled at each craps table here and a similar num- ber gathered around every roulette wheel there. Large numbers and close quarters are fine in such places. But churches, synagogues, and mosques are banned from ad- mitting more than 50 worshippers—no matter how large the building, how distant the individuals, how many wear face masks, no matter the precautions at all. In Nevada, it seems, it is better to be in entertainment than religion. Maybe that is nothing new. But the First Amendment pro- hibits such obvious discrimination against the exercise of religion. The world we inhabit today, with a pandemic upon us, poses unusual challenges. But there is no world in which the Constitution permits Nevada to favor Caesars Palace over Calvary Chapel.

Where two or three are gathered together in my name, I am there among them.
