Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.

I did think Gorsuch characterized it well. I have been impressed with his reasoning on the stuff I've read.

I’m well familiarized with this verse. Context matters of course.

So of course when the authorities construct great ovens for the burning of jews... it is our duty then to burn jews.

Is that what you're telling me?

Of course not. That verse is too often taken as an absolute. But I think it’s more of obey a government so long as they’re not telling you to do something that would be against God.

Yes of course. Was pointing out the absurdity of the interpretation.

I would say it would be pretty unlikely that a just God would command that you violate his commandments.

And that interpretations of scripture outside these bounds need to be reconciled with reason.

My bad, didn’t mean to imply you really meant that. I picked up on what you were after there.
