It was pretty obviously demonstrated by the degree to which the Northern economy crushed the Southern economy during the Civil War.

As part of the revolution and living up to our revolutionary ideals many in the north had a reckoning and realized slavery was incompatible with what the country stood for. That's something. It's noteworthy and it's worth recognizing and honoring.
