I gotta believe that there is part of the contract that is dependent on what happens with the salary cap going forward. Otherwise, one or both sides are taking a HUGE risk.

Honestly, I’m surprised that more deals and the various minimums aren’t tied to the cap. It helps the sides commit to a long term deal where the player doesn’t need to worry about missing out on a big cap increase or the team gets hosed if the cap goes down (covid). Teams might like this because it could simplify negotiations by slotting compensation.

Lamar ain’t gonna be cheap, but we knew that already and he’s also shown he’s worth it on and off the field.
