And let’s not forget how he is free to do and say whatever he wants, while at the same time saying freedom is a lie. Oy....

oh bandc, while there are many things that America can hang it's head in shame for... one positive thing that stands out is that we as a society have striven for individual/group rights : the Civil War, woman's suffrage, worker's wages and decent conditions, WW II, Civil Rights Movement, Woman's Liberation, LGBTQ equal rights, etc. Sure, it's been a bumpy road, but anything worth fighting for will bring some discomfort. So, my friend, I do not agree that "America the land of the free" has been "a lie forever!"

It is now. It's sung and celebrated with everyone in mind.

I can forsee a time when we have a Gay, Trans, Latin, Chinese and Indian National Athem played before every game. Let's just balkanize the fuck out of something meant to be unifying and uplifting because some people have had their heads unscrewed and shat in by our centers of higher education.

Maybe spin a giant wheel at midfield and see what we get so it doesn't take forever.

Amazing what you can think of when race is not the first issue
Lol he celebrated slaves fighting for their freedom. If he was concerned for their Britishness, he would've mentioned it. He instead referred to them as slaves.

It may be true for you, but for a lot of people in this country it still isn't

You know... it was also common to refer to British soldiers as “slaves” to the king cause they did as he said instead of being free. But never mind that.

There's absolutely nothing historically accurate about that statement, especially concerning Francis Scott Key

    Gladly

    https://www.nationalreview.com/2017/...racist-anthem/

Some soldiers on the British side were involuntary conscripts, and the British crown’s policy of in effect kidnapping young men and sending them into battle had roused indignation, contempt, and disgust on the American side.

I see some of why you say and feel the way you do and I also see others viewpoints. IMO, it was an ugly time in our country's history for some. At some point, however, we need to move on for all of our sakes. Is that what you'd truly like to see happen? Do you want unity or continued division? I'd like to move towards unity. We're all Americans. Belaboring all this sometimes seems to me that you want it all to veer away from unity. Do you?
