I think there is a natural bias towards high peak, short career players because we never get to see their decline phase.
Would Barry Sanders have broken Emmitt Smith's rushing record if he kept playing? It's likely, but we really don't know.
Not that Sanders really qualifies as a short career (-cough- Gale Sayers -cough-) but I think you get the point.

On the flip side of this, I have to question Pete Carroll’s decision making, when it comes to these trades. He’s done a lot of good things and he’s still one of the best coaches in the league (Even if he blew a title). However, too often he seems to go willy nilly with these trades.
