If he thinks Earl had a subpar season last year, then absolutely.

Even after the stats prove someone to be wrong, they still are looking for irrational ways to defend an indefensible position.

    Again...

110 coverage yards allowed and SIX completions allowed in 547 coverage snaps all season long.

Only once every 39 dropbacks was the ball thrown to the receiver he was covering.

When it was, his passer rating was 24.2, best in the league.

He allowed 4 coverage yards over his last six starts.

If after that, you are still of the opinion he is not a talented HOF caliber safety playing at a high level, then there is really not much hope in convincing you of his rare talents.

He thinks that, but at least Tony said that it was his personal opinion instead of some objective truth.

Yeah, I don't really get the approach.

What I saw was a guy who was pretty decent in coverage...
    ^^^^^^^^^
Things like this from TL's piece.

He doesn't say if he actually did a study of the film, or or if he watched Earl specifically on every play he lined up. Assuming he didn't do those things, then the opinion is like saying, "Well, the thermometer outside says it's 82 degrees, but in my opinion it's 76." The ball didn't go Earl's way very much, so unless you were actually specifically watching him on all the plays, then how do you know how well he did?

And if he DID do any kind of analysis, then it would be good to share the results, and why they differ from the published facts.

Or maybe "pretty decent" means something entirely different to TL that normal usage. But I don't think it's possible to have any objective measure of ET's performance in coverage where it doesn't rise past the level of pretty decent.

More like standing on stage stoically for 3 months to the sound of silence - then Earl punched Chuck - then a lone audience member started the singular slow clap, that erupted into full applause, then he took a bow.

    But nevertheless, nailed it.
