Ranking the dynasties
Football Outsiders is taking a stab at definiting what constitutes a "dynasty" in football, and ranking all of them:
Dynasty Rankings: Defining a Dynasty

Very good discussion, along with a big table of the 56 teams that ever accumulated 10 "dynasty points". It's a solid list. Pats on top of course, then the Niners of the 80s-90s and Tom Landry's Cowboys. The big tent / small tent discussion after the table is worth reading.
Baltimore teams show up three times on their list:
#15: 1964-71 Colts: Unitas/Matte, Shula/McCafferty, 1 champship, 1 conf, 5 division titles
#50: 2008-12 Ravens: Flacco/Ray, Harbs, 1 champship, 1 conf, 2 division titles
#52: 1958-59 Colts: Unitas, WEEB, 2 champships, 2 conf, 2 div
More articles to come over the next 3-4 weeks, write-ups on all the teams. I'll post back in here when the Baltimore teams come up (starting on Thursday, according to the schedule).
If I have it counted correctly, the current batch of Ravens are sitting on 4 "dynasty points". So we could enter this list with one great season, or another couple good seasons. Or not.

Re: Ranking the dynasties
Five of the top 25 are Packers. Imagine that. Five different dynasties that are among the greatest stretches of all time in the NFL. That's pretty crazy.
Gjennings85 must be proud reading that list."Chin up, chest out."

Re: Ranking the dynasties
Anything before the Super Bowl era is pretty much just a nice memory at this point but nothing that spectacular. Look at the Browns.. Their prehistoric success does not at all outmeasure their current era of misery. The game has become far more difficult for dynasties to flourish. I wouldn't even call most of these dynasties anyway.. I think 3 Super Bowls in a 5 year or so span would truly be a dynasty.

Re: Ranking the dynasties
So stuff that happened in 1975 counts, but 1965 doesn’t?
It’s completely arbitrary, just because they merged with the AFL and came up with a fancier name than “NFL Championship.” How is something that happened 45 years ago any more relevant that something that happened 55 years ago?"Chin up, chest out."
