Although Walsh's system of offense can compensate for lack of talent; however, defense is a different story. According to Walsh, talent on defense was essential and could not be compensated for. What did Walsh do in 1981? He acquired physical and talented players on defense.

And last year as well. He was actually pretty consistent through 2017, but in 2016 he posted 6 sacks through 9 games and only had 2 (both in the same game) through the final 7. In 2018 he had 5.5 through the first 7 games and only 1.5 over the final 9. And last year he had 5 sacks through 7 games and 1.5 over the last 9.
