Then one assumes he's weighting it low. Gosselin's spec teams rankings are pretty well respected, and widely cited. He's been doing it a LONG time; decades
FO has the Ravens 10th in full-seaon spec teams DVOA; but 24th in "weighted DVOA", which discounts eralier games and puts increased weight on recent results:
That tends to back up OrgChaos' observation, that we were really good up to a point then fell off a cliff.
However – and this is interesting – they say we were among the teams most adversely effected by some things outside of team control:
- Second-biggest weather disadvantage to our spec teams on the season (after the Jets).
- 23rd in advantage from "Hidden" factors, like opposing FGs, kickoff air distance, and punt air distance.
But we also got damn little out of our return game on the year.
Plenty of room for improvement!
