34 defense I think of the ILBs and for me the Mack/Will is the more valuable and more important player and harder to find player. If by some miracle Simmons fell would you give it a second thought that he's more of Mack/Will then Buck/Mike?
Simmons is a freak, but he's so long that he keeps blockers off him and gets off blocks, but yeah I hear you're point.

I think the issue is we traditionally associate MIKE with 3-down LB. I dont think that's the case anymore. Really depends on the roles of that specific defense. For example, Mosley was our MIKE, but he had additional responsibilities that the WILL normally had, such as increased hook coverage duties.

Everything in the game now is a hybrid.

Funny thing is Harrison is kind of a freak. He is big and fast. He was one of Luke Fickell's recruiting project who sat behind Darron Lee.

Very few in the world, I think. God doesn't make very many to begin with.

Bachie and Woodward are two of my favourites. Both are instinctual players and that's the #1 trait Im looking for.

Woodward had a game with like 23 tackles lol. He's always around the ball.

Those passing ratings allowed numbers, it's crazy because both look to be crazy athletic, but they don't seem to force many incompletions or turnovers.
Although Walsh's system of offense can compensate for lack of talent; however, defense is a different story. According to Walsh, talent on defense was essential and could not be compensated for. What did Walsh do in 1981? He acquired physical and talented players on defense.

Be careful with charted passer rating.

Corey Littleton allowed a 104.7 rating, but had an 82 coverage grade.
Deon Jones allowed a 101.7 rating, but had an 83 coverage grade
Kuckely had an 87 rating, but an 83 coverage grade

    They're misleading.

One question you have to ask is do they need to be a MIKE? The concern with that is in the nickel which is basically our base with only 1 other LB you have to put out a thumper instead of your "do it all" guy. So if you put Fort on can teams target Fort in the passing game? Does that limit the value of Murray?

In the dime it's a little different. With the extra DBs your prepping for the pass and that plays right into Murray's wheelhouse. He can man up or play zone. He can chase RB's no problem.

So your basically looking at a WILL in the base/nickel that can still be your 3-down LB by playing the LB spot in the dime.

I think Queen is a similar type of guy.
Nice. I would add that since this ILB person will not be asked to wear the green dot since Chuck Clark has it, the idea of the traditional MIKE in the persons of Ray Lewis or CJ Mosley is not exactly what the Ravens need. The team does need a guy who can defend the run and the more they can also excel in pass coverage and blitzing the earlier in the draft they will interest the Ravens. But that difference opens up the WILL LBs like Murray or Queen or Dye for consideration. It even opens up Baun who won't be just an EDGE guy in the NFL (other than in obvious passing downs for blitzing purposes).

That those two are basically just in the box tacklers (read: they are slow and their instincts can't make up for plays on the edges) limits their ceiling and thus are thought of as day 3 picks. Interesting that you don't include Quarterman who the Ravens were all over at the Shrine game like a cheap suit and is of similar quality. I'd guess that he would be the guy they go for on day three if they don't want a sideline to sideline tackler like Murray or Queen. Which, of course, they do.

I like Quarterman too. I like quite a few of these guys in the mid-rounds, especially given that we use some of our guys in the dime that can mask 3-down abilities. Levine, Elliott (if he can finally stya healthy) can help out there
