How Trump Lost an Evangelical Stalwart

This is pretty serious in the Trump world. When one wonders about the makeup up Trump world, the pictures you see of the people at his rallies, the firmly calcified 38% which never sinks below the number and sometimes adds a few, the folks who continue you think Trump is doing a good job despite the daily and at times hourly train wrecks he causes and the people who truly seem to believe is heaven sent.... his white, evangelical base - the heart and soul of white grievance politics.

“The president of the United States attempted to use his political power to coerce a foreign leader to harass and discredit one of the president’s political opponents. That is not only a violation of the Constitution; more importantly, it is profoundly immoral.”

"Christianity Today, also known as CT"

    Now as a caveat:

"Christianity Today, also known as CT, mostly appeals to well-educated readers who are moderate in every way, including politically and theologically. Much of its readership is international, and many older print subscribers might not even register the small, seismic event that just happened on CT’s website. And polling over the last few months has consistently shown that white evangelicals remain among Trump’s staunchest supporters"

    https://www.theatlantic.com/politics...emoval/603952/

Interesting article. Relatively speaking, this is the "educated" part of the Trump base, not the hodickery-dock, heaven- sent folks which probably make up the mass of the 38% but at least someone in that cult, realizes this guy is grifting.

The most astonishing thing about this whole Trump circus is that his calcified base are the evangelicals. Of all people! The group who claims the moral highground has found as their second coming: Donald Trump! The three time married, porn star screwing, bankrupt soul of an individual.

One last quote from Galli of CT:

"I don’t think it was until the impeachment hearings that there was some sort of smoking gun that was just unambiguously clear. The Mueller investigation was so confusing. It was hard to tell what was legal or illegal, moral or immoral. I just don’t know how that world works. But with the impeachment hearings, it became absolutely clear that he tried to use his power as the president to manipulate a foreign leader into getting dirt on his political enemies. That’s unconstitutional, and it’s immoral. So, it was kind of a clear moment."

It's not hard to understand.... that's if, you simply have the ability to engage with the facts. Glad to see someone from this world finally do it.

What daily or hourly train wrecks has he caused? Economy, unemployment, stock market, lower taxes? Not sure what you’re talking about here. Pretty much everything is going well for our country. I realize that this pisses off liberals, but the man is doing a very good job.

Trump is exposing the inside the beltway crowd for what they really are, money hungry, power hungry, crooks.

Galen doesn’t like his crooks being exposed, so that is a train wreck to him

Not one evangelical leader I pay attention to has agreed with CT on this and in fact, most have stated they are wrong on this and other matters.

CT has become quite liberal and has, for quite a while, lost a lot of subscribers.* They are not the voice of evangelicalism and this means little to nothing.

*In fact they would have been out of business several years ago without donations from deep-pocket Christians supporting them.

Anybody else picturing Galen in the rain staring longingly into the restaurant window where inside all the cool people are toasting to their friendships? It's hard to tell with the driving rain, but he's probably crying a little.

The evangelical movement in this country has transformed into a political faction, that’s all. They care about getting conservative judges at every level to make abortions illegal above all else. They have forfeited the ability to credibly say that they stand for moral righteousness.

Abortion isn't a hill I'm willing to die on. I want lower taxes, health care choice, and my guns. The abortion thing doesn't even begin to sway my voting decision.

They aren't the voice of the evagellys because they actually follow some moral code and not some ignorant bigoted clown.

Are you one of the "cool" people? Lol. Okay. What a weird thing to post. I need to hang with anime Darb to figure out what's "cool".

The evangelicals have prostituted their flimsy gods for their stupid grievances.
