Re: The Music Thread
Went to see the Doobie Brothers last night, pretty good.......they were on my bucket list. One of the few times I have seen artist and thought........these guys can still do it. I have seen groups in the past couple years that were way past their time to hang it up. Micheal McDonald could still belt them out. The band could still hit the notes. Other then the weather is was a nice time.
If you haven't seen it Aerosmith is finally calling it quits. Steven Tylar had surgery on his vocal cords and they are never going to be the same. Same thing happened to Jon Bon Jovi. I did see a video of Joan Jett........holy shit! Yeah, she should think about retiring as well. All of my musical heroes are pushing 80. At some point they will start dropping like flies.
My true vocal hero Rik Emmitt just finished up chemo for prostate cancer.
To all of you who are young.......enjoy your life, go to concerts, take that trip, go on an adventure, love who ever it is you love like there will be no tomorrow, Make as many smiles as you can, just sit and watch the sunset without making a sound. Enjoy every moment of your life while you are healthy.
I know, you hear old people talking like this and you think.......oh geeeez Pops..........you let it go in one ear and out the other. Till one day your old and your body has betrayed you. You can't do what you used to do.
I was 16 yrs old and a neighbor of mine was an 80 yr old short little Italian guy. He was a tailor during the day and at night he dealt cards for the mafia on Baltimore street when Baltimore street was the shit. Vaudeville acts etc. He used to tell me.........."John, don't ever get old" I used to laugh........Mr Gene, I am not going to live long enough to get old..........he I am. I stayed up last went to the concert, didn't get home till 11:30. I drove home from Philly. This morning I feel like I was ran over by a truck. I am in pretty good shape for my age..........I am just getting old.

Re: The Music Thread
Saw Van Halen many times, I am a David Lee Roth Van Halen fan. Sammy was good but I like the original line up........."Back in the day". I saw Van Halen on tour for their first album, 3 rd row. It was an amazing experience. I was just a teenager, I have told the story before. It was the day I became a man.......LOL I was out in the hallways before the show, we were just standing around........people watching........along comes this blonde, the most beautiful female I had ever seen in my very short young life. She had on red leather pants with the butt cheeks cut out. Perfect oval shape windows. I thought to myself.......this is what heaven must look like. I know, today that is mild compared to what we see on the beaches. But in the mid 70's it was as scandalous as you could get. In public? Hell no.......just didn't happen.
Always buying Antique and vintage items......

Re: The Music Thread
I know what I was gonna ask you all. There was a big reunion most of us never thought would happen this week. Anyone hoping they come stateside? I'm sure tickets will cost a month's pay but I wouldn't miss this chance cuz who knows when they will start feuding again.
I am of course talking about a most legendary band.

Re: The Music Thread
I dig this channel and she does a good job analyzing Geoff Tate’s voice.

Linkin Park with a new female singer, not bad.

Re: The Music Thread
I rate Chester as one of the top 3 frontman of all time and I have this on my arm so I feel uniquely qualified to give my opinion on this. It's Chester, it's not the greatest tattoo ever but I love it nonetheless and it has significant meaning to me beyond my love for Chester and LP - mainly LP's music saved my life, literally, at a dark point in my life, just a couple years ago. I probably would not be here if their music hadn't played a role in that. So I wanted to honor that in some way.
I am getting a full sleeve of music shit, Lady Justice is next up on one side of my forearm, and Vic Rattlehead on the other. Then I'm going to put some sort of Lamb of God thing on the bicep and he's going to tie it all together.
My opinion of the new singer...she's okay in general and on the new song...but I don't like it AT ALL on the classic LP tracks. I listened her do Numb and to me it sounded horrific, but I'm expecting Chester and it's not ever going to be Chester no matter who they got to do it. I'm very happy the band is moving forward with new music but not sure this was the way.back on twitter

Re: The Music Thread
It's Friday, try something new today. Y'all might not like the vocals (not even fans of the band necessarily love his vox) but the opening riff is a great way to start your Friday after a loss.

Re: The Music Thread
Like Lane Staley of Alice In Chains, the new singer is good, but for the older stuff, it just doesn't sound right. You can even say the same of Brian Johnson replacing Bon Scott in AC/DC. More or less a new band in some ways.
Todd La Torre replaced Geoff Tate in Queensryche, who to me is the best singer I ever heard. Todd is fine and all in their newer stuff, but you cannot compete with Geoff for old material.

Re: The Music Thread
So I thought the music thread would be the most appropriate place to post this.
