You know what other cornerback wasn't really known for tackling?

Deion Sanders.

Hall of Fame inductee, 2011.

Now, I'm not saying Marcus Peters is going to be a HOF cornerback....

But if he keeps making interceptions at the rate he is going, he will be.

Deion Sanders averaged 3.87 interceptions per season (53 over 14 seasons).

Marcus Peters has 27 in 4 years and 12 games....he's averaging over 5 interceptions per year. If Peters plays 14 seasons and maintains his average, that's 75 interceptions. That would put him 3rd on the all-time list for career interceptions above Ed Reed and Rod Woodson.

Now, it is unlikely that he will sustain that level of play for that long. However, nothing is impossible.

Bottom line is this -

He's a cornerback. His primary role is to shut down opposing team's wide receivers and create turnovers. Thus far, he's done a pretty darn good job of that.

Would it be great if Peters magically adopted Marlon Humphrey's physicality? Sure. However, I can't begrudge him from not wanting to lower the boom every time he straps on his helmet.

Yea, he definitely misjudged that ball and where Deebo Samuel was. Credit to Samuel - it was an awesome play on a not-so-great ball.

Agree on both points Wicked. If he keeps turning the ball over I’m fine if he gives up a big play once in a while. Not everyone is a perfect player

What do you think people are going to remember more after this season? Marlon Humphrey planting George Kittle on his ass? Or Marcus Peters first game as a Raven with a pick-6?

Humphrey is way more physical, but Peters has superior ball skills. I think they complement each other pretty well. Would love to see them be our top CB tandem for a few more years.

I prefer consistency and these extreme lapses are exactly why teams moved on from Peters. I like his ability to turn the football over, but I also hate the Dr. Jekyll Mr. Hyde nature of his game. All players have things they can work on, but Peters can turn into the exact opposite of what you see and that's what makes me nervous about him.

Peters is not a great tackler. He is a superb ball hawk. Just give me decent tackling production and I’ll take it. Right now he is in a contract year and any injury could cost him millions of dollars. Just as Judon is not setting the edge well because he is looking for sacks every down Peters is not coming up to make hard hits unless he has help. It’s business for players just as well as teams.
