Re: Justin Bethel Released
AB, all draft picks are "unproven." It's not as though Bethel was some sort of player we couldn't do without. Not only have the Ravens had a decent draft run in the 4th round, but a pick like that can also be used as ammunition for a trade up in an earlier round. IMO releasing him, and recouping the 4th round pick, was a wise decision... Bc

Re: Justin Bethel Released
Come on guys. We're talking about a ST specialist. I'd rather the pick. I really think that this move was made because EDC is working on trade options. If not then the release wouldn't have happened.

Re: Justin Bethel Released
How did cutting Bethel change anything with respect to a trade? It can't be a roster spot (they have one for McPhee). They can't trade the comp pick as it hasn't been awarded yet. Cutting Bethel opened up no cap space.
They could have held on to Bethel for another 2 weeks before cutting him and still regained the comp pick. The timing is very strange, and I don't think a trade explains it.Shared Google Folder with Ravens spreadsheets, nextGen charts, and more! Please share my content! (attribution to Twitter requested)

"That's not Donovan McNabb."

Re: Justin Bethel Released
Its possible Bethel could have demanded for his release. He probably wanted it now rather than later. It's not hard to believe that Bethel could have been aware of his chances of getting cut especially after seeing Brent Urban get released by The Titans. It's his agent job to keep him relevant in the league and to be able to play every season. Bethel is a pro bowl special teamer and special teams are already underrated in the league especially since still to this day special team coaches in NFL find it hard to get consideration as head coaches.

Re: Justin Bethel Released
Number 1, I would have kept him.
Number 2, why not wait until closer to the week 10 deadline?Although Walsh's system of offense can compensate for lack of talent; however, defense is a different story. According to Walsh, talent on defense was essential and could not be compensated for. What did Walsh do in 1981? He acquired physical and talented players on defense.

According to Brian McFarland, no (or at least not yet). See the following Twitter exchange:
