    Too Many Empty Sets

This is a huge problem with the pass protection. The amount of empty sets we run gives defenses the green light to send heat and put instant pressure on Lamar. Especially with a big hole at LG/C in pass pro.

Why can't G-Ro realize that we need to sacrifice the extra route for a RB in the backfield? Ingram is a great blitz pick up too. When Lamar has time he can go through his reads properly or see the run lanes clearly if no one is open.

The issue with the quick pressure is that the pocket instantly gets skewered and it's a mess for Lamar to navigate, he's taken too many sacks in these situations and it's not his fault.

Not only do you keep Ingram in as an extra blocker, but you now open up the option for a designed screen to kill the blitz.

Stop with all the empty sets so often! Play it safe and protect first, worry about the route combinations second! All the route combos don't mean shit when there instant pressure constantly!

I wholeheartedly agree. When Ive said this week that Roman needs to protect Lamar more this is really what I meant.

Im still firmly Team Roman but he's gotta evolve to help the youngin out with protection, screens, etc.

    I don't really agree TBH.

A lot of the reps we lost are off basic 1-on-1's. At some point you have to expect your guys to win those.

    I like empty sets.

How many empty sets do you think they’re even calling per game? 5? 6?

But this sounds like a question OrgChaos stats can address with data.

At first blush my memory tells me that empty sets are an efficient and productive formation under GRo

One thing to note is we run quite a few empty sets out of 12 and 11 personnel.

They have their place but I absolutely agree
Watch the 9ers last night, 2 backs almost 60% of snaps. Granted they use a FB more traditionally

Their line was an absolute bully against a very good defensive front.

We really need a better line to do what G-Ro wants to do IMHO

The only run was (what looked to us like) a designed QB draw on 3rd and 20 against ARZ (Q3, 00:56). It gained 19 yards.

With Lamar in the backfield, there is always the threat of a run. Those receivers MUST get open. The defense is always watching Lamar.
