Greta Thunburg and the "climate crisis"

More than 500 scientists in climate research fields sent a “European Climate Declaration” to the Secretary General of the UN asking for an open debate on climate change.

Climate science should be less political, while climate policies should be more scientific.

Scientists should openly address the uncertainties and exaggerations in their predictions of global warming, while politicians should dispassionately count the real benefits as well as the imagined costs of adaptation to global warming, and the real costs as well as the imagined benefits of mitigation.

There is no statistical evidence that global warming is intensifying hurricanes, floods, droughts and suchlike natural disasters, or making them more frequent. However, CO2-mitigation measures are as damaging as they are costly. For instance, wind turbines kill birds and bats, and palm-oil plantations destroy the biodiversity of the rainforests.

    I agree.

Count me in the group that thinks we shouldn't be listening to a 16 year old child who claims her dreams and childhood were destroyed because of the climate and that the human race is about to become extinct.

Her speech yesterday at the UN was basically...“do what I want you to do or else you are an evil person."

This poor girl is bring used as a human shield in this crusade because you can't criticize her. If you do..."you're attacking a child." But who would use a child like this? Who would have a child pushing such radical political positions? Someone who is obsessed w/power. That's who.

Everyone should do themselves a favor and "duckduckgo" information on other political parties throughout history who used children the same way. You'll be shocked by the results...but then again...you probably won't be.

She's the Democrat's new David Hogg. It's kind of sad that they need to parade these programmed kids out to try and get their socialist message out.

I felt bad for her. But at the same time I couldn't watch, it seem so phony and fake.

*In the 70's, we were told...
“Population will inevitably and completely outstrip whatever small increases in food supplies we make. The death rate will increase until at least 100-200 million people per year will be starving to death during the next ten years.”

“If present trends continue, the world will be about four degrees colder for the global mean temperature in 1990, but 11 degrees colder by the year 2000, This is about twice what it would take to put us in an ice age.”

According to Life magazine...“Scientists have solid experimental and theoretical evidence to support…the following predictions: In a decade, urban dwellers will have to wear gas masks to survive air pollution…by 1985 air pollution will have reduced the amount of sunlight reaching earth by one half….”

*In January 2006 Al Gore predicted that we had ten years left before the planet turned into a “total frying pan.”

*In 2008...ABC News predicted that NYC would be underwater by June 2015.

*In 2008...Al Gore predicted that there is a 75% chance that the entire north polar ice cap would be completely melted within 5-7 years.

*On May 13th 2014, France’s foreign minister Laurent Fabius said that we only have 500 days to stop “climate chaos.” The Paris Climate Summit that year met 565 days after he said this. Lol.

Now, we have 12 years left according to a bartender from Queens? 10 years according to Bob O'Rourke? We're at the precipice of a human mass extinction according to Greta Thunberg?

I'm going out on a limb here to say..............nah.

I do agree that this issue should be debated and not forcefully pushed as something the US MUST address. Meanwhile...China is the New York Yankees of pollution and "climate crime" but they aren't really being held accountable are they?

You really need to check out how to actually quote someone, I saw you intentionally misquoting in the Democratic primary thread too. You can pretty much make the points you´re making without misquoting, although then they don´t look quite as stupid and clueless and ridiculous as you intend for them to look obviously. I guess that´s what you need when you´ve sided with The Donald. :D

Btw, what she usually says is exactly what you proclaim! That we should listen to science. Real science. Which there is pretty much none in the "call" youre posting. I know the swedish professor mentioned there very well. Long time global warming denier, professor of philosophy btw, not a scientist into anything climate related.

And trying to portray her as the face of any political party is completley false, she´s completley independent, paied by noone and has made it a thing to be and remain that.

I´m also maybe not that into it, and I do sort of think it´s lame by political leaders adn company co:s etc to wanna benefit from being seen with her. And if anything it´ll probably only add to her frustration.

So, which of the following is correct?

    a) the world will end in 10-12 years due to climate change
    b) we are at the beginning of the human race becoming extinct due to climate change
    c) both are true
    d) none are true

The one thing i know about actual science is that it is never settled. As soon as the liberals spiked the football and proclaimed that science was settled it became obvious to all that it was never scientific and always political...

    Right!

That's one of the things that the European Climate Declaration letter says.

It's a call for rationale, logic, and debate. The problem is that there are insanely enormous amounts of money on the line here and the funding behind all of it CANNOT stop. Too many people's hands are in the cookie jar.

Climate "science" money is YUGE, and it's presided over by government agencies with people who we're just to presume don't have their own agenda.

According to data compiled by Joanne Nova at the Science and Public Policy Institute, the US Government spent more than $32.5 Billion on climate studies between 1989 and 2009. This doesn't count about $79 Billion more spent for related climate change technology research, foreign aid and tax breaks for "green energy." It's a super lucrative racket.

I get why politicians frame it as: "you dont agree, YOU'RE A DENIAR!" It's the same thing they do with _________ism. It shuts the discussion down....which is the point. The strategy unfortunately works.

I just realized this poor little girl is from Sweden. By our resident far left loon, I see this indoctrination runs rampant over there.

Yuuup. The science on "climate change" is the least scientific conversation we've ever seen. I think people are very confident in "science" that has almost infinite variables, and explaining it down to one. There are literally far less variable in genome mapping, and FAR more scientists working on that... and we are still about 15 years away from any reasonable applicable breakthroughs in that field.

Also... Science RARELY provides solutions. They explain the why. None of this is how science works at all. No scientist would ever say, "hey, I've noticed that there's some changes in climate, and I noticed that this one variable is correlating.... let's adopt socialism". Anyone that is truly in the science field knows this is absurd. I don't mean the people taking the soil samples. I don't mean literally ANYONE at the U.N.... I mean the people that are breaking down the data analyitics... which, since we JUST adopted parallel processing of data sets within the last 5 years, I'd say that the data isn't showing anything that would warrant any solutions... it is ridiculous.
