Why trade for Rosen just to tank?

They’re sick of winning 6, 7, or 8 games. Not enough for playoff and too good for top pick. It is a cycle they want to break and are willing to go through pain to achieve.

Having said that, I am now worried about week one.

Why trade for Rosen just to tank?

Rosen is a hedge. If they do draft a QB in round 1 next year they'll have 2 QBs taken very high in the draft who could become the franchise guy you're looking for. It gives them 2 years to make a decision. At that point they could trade one of them or they pay Rosen his 5th year option and push the decision off for another year. Conversely if Rosen is obviously not the answer they don't exercise the option and let him go after year 4. That still gives them 3 cheap years which is enough to justify the trade.

You have to ask yourself what Rosen will do in Miami that he didn’t do in Arizona. How much did they give up to really still have an opportunity at a far higher pick, and still have the chance that Rosen matures. Like the Bat Man said, Rosen is the hedge.
