Re: ravens trade vedvik to vikings
Awesome trade. I didn't think we'd get more than a 7.
Although Walsh's system of offense can compensate for lack of talent; however, defense is a different story. According to Walsh, talent on defense was essential and could not be compensated for. What did Walsh do in 1981? He acquired physical and talented players on defense.

Re: ravens trade vedvik to vikings
I think you're being too pessimistic. Sure a 5th can be less than a 50 - 50 chance to succeed, but that doesn't mean all 5th rounders fail (Pernell McPhee, Rick Wagner, Nick Boyle, and Matt Judon for instance). Secondly, this can be used as a trade chip come draft day. We signed Vedvik as an UDFA last year and turned that into a 5th round pick in 2020. To me DeCosta is a magician... Bc

That’s a ton of ammo to be aggressive in next years draft.

Re: ravens trade vedvik to vikings
This post sums up the situation very well. No matter his potential, Vedvik has never kicked in a regular season game. Last year, while he impressed to a degree, he was not stone cold solid. It goes without saying that he wasn’t good enough at punts to match Koch’s quality and he wasn’t good enough with FGs to match Tucker’s quality.
While I poo poo’d The idea that getting a seventh round pick for a former fourth rounder was a “great” move, I am much higher on this particular move. An Undrafted Free Agent who suffered a serious head injury last year, and who has never kicked in a regular season game, traded for a fifth round pick. That is a very good deal.

Even we as fans, stress the importance of continuity. The one entity that we’ve been able to rely on the most, over the past half dozen years, has been the Wolfpack. Koch is not only the best Punter in the league, but a great holder and can run fakes with great effectiveness. Punters are known to play into their 40s. You don’t mess with that chemistry until it tells you, through its declining play, that it needs to be messed with.

A team that is set up to be a defensively led, ball control team, prone to close low scoring games, cannot afford to gamble with the most solid special teams unit in the league. That is the difference in those close games.

Re: ravens trade vedvik to vikings
We basically made a 5th round pick from nothing. How awesome is that!? There's only a small chance that it turns into a big player, but if you create enough small chances, one of them will eventually pay off big.
Props to Ozzie and DeCosta.
