Re: Why do republicans hate america and our heroes?
I always laugh when liberals say that “corporate tax cuts costs the government money”. It’s the most absurd thing ever! The past two years the government has seen a rise in revenues due to those tax cuts. The reason is REALLY simple. If it costs me less money to figure out a way around taxes, then I do that. If taxes are bearable, then I just pay them. 98% of Corporations don’t have certain loopholes and subsidies so they have to find relief from taxes if they are just too high through other methods. Also, if corporations have more profit on hand, they hire more people. Those people then ALSO provide additional revenue to the government and cost government less. So... long story short, BECAUSE of the tax cuts, we have more government revenue. Which, in turn pays for more programs. We didn’t “pay” for tax cuts. It’s not even close to a valid argument nor has it been. When Reagan cut taxes, the government also increased its revenue. The deficit isn’t because government doesn’t make enough. It’s because the government spends too much.

But corporations were also very eager to return tax savings to shareholders, as evidenced by the 60.4% rise in shareholder buybacks from 2017 to 2018.
More worrying, however, is that the jump in capital expenditures may already be running out of gas, even though the corporate tax cut was made permanent. Business investment spiked in the first and second quarters of last year, rising 11.7% and 8.7%, respectively, but has steadily fallen since that point, and only rose 2.7% in the first quarter of 2019.

Otherwise, GDP growth was level with pre-tax cut projections. Wage growth was marginal and slower than GDP. And while companies did use their windfall from the tax cut, as Vox’s Emily Stewart has been covering, “relatively little was directed to paying worker bonuses,” according to CRS.It’s difficult to overstate just how weak the tax law’s influence was. Investments in US businesses did not seem to respond at all to the law’s provisions.
“Although investment grew significantly, the growth patterns for different types of assets do not appear to be consistent with the direction and size of the supply-side incentive effects one would expect from the tax changes,” the CRS researchers said. “This potential outcome may raise questions about how much longer-run growth will result from the tax revision.”
It is more an indictment of the staid nature of the American tax code than a credit to Republicans that the 2017 law still is the most significant rewrite of the tax statute in a generation. It appears the GOP squandered — or exploited — that opportunity to write a plan that primarily put more money in corporate coffers.
