Re: Lamar statistical comps
He reminds me of Barry Sanders when running the football. Just the elusiveness and ability to make guys miss in open space there is noone like that in the NFL right now. No one regardless of position.
As far as passing comparison to me he reminds me a bit of Steve Young. When Steve Young entered the league with Tampa he couldn't throw and you were never sure were the ball would go. The main thing that shone through though was that he made good decisions with the football.
I've always been of the opinion that you can fix some of the other mechanical things that are wrong with a quarterback but it's very hard to change when there are issues above the shoulders either in decision making, confidence, or often both. I remember when Boller was here everyone would marvel at his arm talent but he was a complete basketcase and that shone through. We tried everything including sending him to a shrink nothing worked.
If you look at his first season even when Lamar was inaccurate he was making the correct read and making good decisions with the football.

Re: Lamar statistical comps
Maybe if Barry was 6 inches taller, and 20 pounds heavier 😮
Yes, Lamar is as fast, and shifty as guys like Sanders, or Vick, or Sayers. However, we've never seen anyone able to move like that at 6'2" 225 lbs. Lamar is truly a physical specimen. Crazy to think a guy could be built like that, and be a great QB on top of it. He just might be the Lebron James of the NFL.

Re: Lamar statistical comps
I hope i'm not going to far in the way back machine.....
As a runner he reminds me of mix between return specialist Dante Hall and Marcus Allen (but faster and possibly quicker)
As a passer his 3/4 to sidearm throwing motion reminds me of Ken Stabler and Jeff George.

Re: Lamar statistical comps
That is a really good read. Just a minor quibble with this:
They are very specific plays, plays that put the quarterback too far away from the first down line to scramble which exposes him to the defence's full range of blitzes. Play action is also not a factor when it's Third-and-10+. We can look at greater sample sizes and still make adjustments to take away Jackson's impact.
It's a minor quibble because it doesn't take away from his point: he was very good passing last year in those situations. I expect he'll only get better with more experience.

Re: Lamar statistical comps
Lamar scrambled 6 times on 3rd and 10+, gaining a first down 4 times.
- @KC, Q1, 06:02, 3rd and 10, empty formation, gains 7 (Ravens go for it, going empty again, and Jackson scrambles for the first down [the D4 attempt is the play where he does "what do you want me to do" motion to Andrews mid-run])
- CIN, Q2, 00:09, 3rd and 10, gains 29 (but he chooses to pick up extra yards, doesn't get OOB in time, and the clock runs out)
- CIN, Q4, 08:36, 3rd and 14, gains 16
- @SEA, Q2, 14:04, 3rd and 10, empty formation, gains 28 (blitzed by DB off right end, Jackson spins around and sprints around left side)
- @LAR, Q3, 03:12, 3rd and 14, empty formation, gains 5 (immediately preceded the D4 conversion to Boykin)
- @CLE, Q3, 14:10, 3rd and 10, empty formation, gains 15
