BBQ, Grilling, and Smoking
Not sure how many others are interested in BBQ, Grilling, and Smoking, but there was a sidebar in the movies/tv thread. I smoked some ribs yesterday, so figured I'd get one going.
Smoked these pork baby backs on my Oklahoma Joe offset smoker for about 4 hours.

Huge fan of BBQ. I'm doing pork belly burnt ends this weekend. I'll post some pics of stuff I've done
How do you like your OKJ?

Re: BBQ, Grilling, and Smoking
I love it. You can use it as a smoker, grill, or indirect cooker. I've had it for about 20 years. On a hot day you can stand nearby and smell every meal I've ever cooked radiating off it. But sadly it's time to replace it. I've had a hard time finding a replacement cover for it, so the ones I've bought have been ill-fitting and it's rusted inside and out. In this picture you can see all the places that smoke is coming out, which means heat is coming out. I probably go through a lot more charcoal and wood than I used to just trying to maintain temperature.
I've looked last few years, but the shit at home depot and similar feels like such flimsy thin metal. This one is solid and weighs a lot.
Found almost the same one at BJ's except it is a reverse flow. But it's an Oklahoma Joe (now owned by Char Broil) and solid like this one.

Re: BBQ, Grilling, and Smoking
I ended up smoking 3 wrack of Ribs Sunday too. I used a smokey/sweet dry rub, and then threw them on the grill to char up using Chipotle BBQ sauce. I can tear up some ribs. I also threw some Ribeye steaks on and made a side of Dirty Rice like Popeyes makes.
I ate that shit all day sunday and then yesterday left overs.
I use an electric masterbuilt smoker and chips.
On a side note, never buy a Kenmore Grill. Every thing made from them is absolute shit. Last two grills I bought were Kenmore, 1 lasted 3 years, and this one 2nd year and all 4 of my heat shields are completely destroyed. Cleaning it Friday after very minimal winter use all of the heat shields crumbled in my hands, the last grill the bottom rotted out and I clean my shit regularly and cover with foil.
Thankfully Home Depot sells heat shields for $10 ea or I would have had to drop money to go buy a grill for my parties this past weekend. No wonder Sears is almost out of business their products have gone to shit.

Re: BBQ, Grilling, and Smoking
Does anyone own a Flat top grill like (Blackstone, or any of the off brands they are now making) I want to buy one. Just wondering how good they work and is it alot of work to keep them cleaned/seasoned?

Re: BBQ, Grilling, and Smoking
Damn, I think I put on 10 pounds just reading that. Sounds delicious.
I've debated getting one of those electric pellet smokers, like a Traeger. A friend swears by his Big Green Egg, but those things are damn expensive. I like the flexibility of the offset because I can also use it to just grill stuff like burgers. For smoking it is a little more difficult because of how you have to adjust to maintain temperature, but honestly I kinda enjoy that aspect of it.
I also debated getting a Pit Barrel Cooker. Those look pretty cool.

Re: BBQ, Grilling, and Smoking
I was reading my Ace Hardware flyer yesterday, just ridiculous on the prices of those green eggs and some other grills. Never in a million years would I pay $1300-$2000 for a damn grill. I have owned many different brands over the years, one of the longest lasting ones I had was a Nexgrill which is thought to be somewhat generic brand. It has a Rotiserie on it. Best chicken I ever cooked was on that thing.
I know the green eggs are supposed to be awesome but there are so many other things I could drop $1000 on I would just never do it

Re: BBQ, Grilling, and Smoking
Costco was where I got mine from. That grill lasted me a while. A good 6-8 years.
These garbage Kenmores are lasting 2-3 years.
I once made a grill out of a stainless steel heineken beer keg. Put legs on it, handle, hinges etc... That thing would cook and clean up like new every time. I think my shit head operations manager stole it when we left it at my building one weekend. We used to take it tailgating to Ravens games, no one ever messed with it, I left it locked in my warehouse of a previous job and the damn thing went missing. I was so pissed.
