Re: Ravens 2019 Offense Scheme
What's not to get? LJ has superior running skills, so he did lean on them as he was thrown into the fire in 2018. Remember he was supposed to hold a clipboard, but not see the field. blah, it doesn't matter if the TEAM or he himself took on a run-first attitude, what counts to me is that LJ had actual on-field experience that will (hopefully) be developed into a more mature/balanced QB... and YES in 2018 he had instincts to run. Hopefully not so much in 2019... Bc

Re: Ravens 2019 Offense Scheme
The context of being VERY young (even for a rookie) is definitely important. We've seen other young QBs take big leaps recently (Goff and Mahomes). And maybe Jackson, if he's headed for a similar leap, will take an extra year to get there because of his age. Mahomes broke out at 23, Goff at 24. Jackson will be 22 this season (I'm just grabbing their ages off Pro-Football-Reference).
If your point is that Jackson's struggles throwing deep MIGHT be an aberration or that he MIGHT develop into a better deep ball passer than he is now, I agree. But I think we also have to acknowledge the possibility that he might not develop much with his deep ball.
I'm excited for Jackson, I'm just also trying to be a realist.

Re: Ravens 2019 Offense Scheme
My point is that using last year's eight games as a final indicator of anything is a bit shallow. What he does going forward may be good, bad or middle of the road. I will wait to see how he handles things as a starter after having a full preparation; and then assess him at each step up the ladder as the game slows down for him and he adapts to the NFL defenses over 16 (or maybe even 32) games.

Re: Ravens 2019 Offense Scheme
What's not to get is that you remark made it sound like Lamar wants to run pretty quickly if things don't pan out. That is not what I saw. I saw a QB who wants to move around the pocket to possibly stay in it and make a throw. So it really does matter if the TEAM made him run or if he is skittish and won't go through progressions.

Re: Ravens 2019 Offense Scheme
Most successful offenses in the league today, whether it is the Patriots or the Chiefs or the Rams or whoever else, are incorporating a lot of college elements...if you don't like it, you should probably look into another hobby...I mean the league isn't going back to how offense was played 20-30 years ago.

Re: Ravens 2019 Offense Scheme
Then maybe we're similarly pessimistic/optimistic! I don't mind our trying to do something different on offense. If it remains dependent on tons of designed runs for Jackson, then it will only deliver short-term success. But if we can get more out of the passing game I think it could work. As you say, we can only hope.
