Re: Lottery tickets; your favorite late-round/UDFA prospects

    Offense: WR Juston Christian (Marist)
Defense: DE / OLB Ronheen Bingham (Arkansas State)

    Both small school stars.

Ravens had Juston Christian in for their "local" Pro Day (he's from Owings Mills). Christian averaged over 25 yards per catch his Senior year (over 20 YPC for his entire college career).

Ronheen Bingham was the Sun Belt Conference player of the year. He's small for a college DE (6'2" 245), so a sub-package rush specialist and Special Teams beast. You do see him drop into coverage some on game tape, so maybe he could develop into an ILB for a 34...sort of a Kendrell Bell type pass rusher from the inside.

Both are longshots...but that's the thread.

To answer your question here's what I like about Jalen Smith:
    -big bodied WR w/ good speed - 6'2 - 219 lbs - 4.47 good explosion numbers too: 34.5 Vert - 122 Broad

-when he played with Lamar he was considered a WR on the rise, and had good production:
    career averaged 16.5 ypc -
    Jr season: 60-980-7 TDs - 16.3 ypc
    So: 27-599-6 TDs - 22.2 ypc

    -Senior played 4 years

-Played in an NFL passing game

-Showed well at the Senior Bowl practices where he was one of the better receivers especially vs press coverage

Would your draft him, or hope for him as a priority UDFA?

Depends on how the draft is playing out and whether or not his agent is amenable to having a hand shake/wink nod deal where the team sweetens his UDFA signing bonus in exchange for the player agreeing to sign.

Duke Shelley the CB outta Kansas State. Every time I throw on his tape, I sit there trying to figure out why this guy isn't being billed as a mid round guy.

What do the pundits say? Is there a "knock" on him e.g. is he shorter than preferred, was his 40 slow, etc.?

What do you see? I love hearing about these kind of guys before the draft.

Pipkins was at the East West Shine game and was supposedly very impressive. That’s what started all the talk about him.

This is the only national scouting report I found on him (https://thedraftnetwork.com/player/duke-shelley), but he is on the smaller side. He ran 4.4 at his pro day so he's plenty fast.
But looking at all his tape, it looks like he's extremely sticky, and then you turn on the tape vs one of the top 3-4 receivers in the country in Tylan Wallace, and he was amazing.

All in all, we might not need another slot guy, but I think he'll do really well in his career.

Preston Williams has the best WR tape in the draft. I would take him on the 4th or 5th round

Ditto for Ty Johnson. Perfect match.

Re: Lottery tickets; your favorite late-round/UDFA prospects

I've got to use some objective measurement so I'll go with players ranked lower than 300th by CBS Sports:

    302 C.J. Conrad, TE, Kentucky
313 Ulysees Gilbert III, LB Akron
    320 Cody Thompson, WR Toledo
327 Alex Barnes, RB Kansas St
    331 Youhanna Ghaifan, DT, Wyoming
    332 John Ursua, WR, Hawaii
333 Yosuah Nijman, OT, Virginia Tech
    334 Ugochukwu Amadi, S, Oregon
    357 Jordan Wyatt, CB, SMU
    367 Tre Watson, LB, Maryland

it's uh... getting really hard for me after that

2-3 years out, I would not be surprised if Williams is one of the best WRs from this class.
