Biggest contact in sports history?
Also, if anyone deserves it, he does. He's by far the best player in the sport.

35.83 Mil / year. 100% guaranteed money. Baseball has an insane financial structure. The MLB players union is by far the best in pro sports. And, it's probably killed competitive balance. It's not even opening day & there are 15-20 teams who know that they have no shot at the World Series this year. The low $ vs high $ teams makes being a fan in a medium market a bit tough. It's stolen some joy from my favorite game as a kid.

And that's still an illogical argument. Want to fight against using tax money to build the stadiums or give incentives for teams to move/stay? That makes sense, go for it. But the players are being paid from revenue, not directly from your taxes. If they don't take the money, the billionaire owners just keep more.

The disparity between free agent money and rookie contract money (prior to the last year of arbitration) is so great that it has become win-prohibitive to build a team through free agency. Even the Yanks and Sawx have needed to invest in a strong farm system to get to where they are.

Re: OT: Mike Trout finalizing a 12 year, $430 million deal with the Angels
Meanwhile, minor league players can no longer afford to play the game anymore. MLB lobbied for an exclusion to fair labor practices so they don't need to pay overtime for any hours worked over 40. The economics of baseball are warped. There are still quality baseball players on the free agent market. Teams would rather tank the season and rebuild rather spend money on talented, yet flawed players that could help them win games. The teams that don't have the talent to win the pennant are largely forgoing free agency and slashing payroll. They are literally losing on purpose in order to rebuild.

No comment on the $100 billion train to nowhere project in the same area Mike Trout just signed his deal?
Instead of demanding more money be taken from people, how about properly using the money that's already being taken.
As for the Trout contract itself, I'm glad he got paid more than Manny.
