OT: Fire Mark Turgeon

Turgeon sucks but there’s no chance he gets fired this year (*maybeeeeeeee* if they go one and done in the other tournament too). Results relative to roster/expectations coming in this was probably his best season.

In the offseason everything short of politics is open here

Which is disappointing AF, given his background with Larry Brown and in the NBA as a skills coach. I "like him", in the sense that he seems to be a good guy and maintains a family atmosphere around the program and seems to love the kids and try to do things The Right Way. And he recruits his face off. We haven't recruited this well since Lefty.

But man, his teams are not fun to watch. And they never or rarely seem to play "over their heads". Gary's less-talented teams would punch teams right in the face; they were good for an "over their heads" signature win basically every year. Dangerous, respected. And when Gary had actual good talent, boom Final Four.

I guess it's not fair to compare a working-man coach to a literal Hall Of Fame coach. Most guys are going to suffer in comparison. But, man. We should be better. I guess he could turn a corner in the next couple seasons. Good freshman class in the building; Mitchell twins on their way for next year. And hell, a Sweet Sixteen run would go a long way to resetting everyone's attitude.

No chance they boot Turge when they would still owe him significant money. The dept is not in good-enough financial shape.

turgeon is a great guy but a horrible coach. Same thing for the last 8 years. Nothing changes. It's like a Dean Pees defense in the 4th quarter.

His teams get worse as the season goes on. His teams runs no offense, never tries to change the pace of the game, and is unable to motivate his players. He can't beat good teams. His teams don't press, have no quick hitters, and he admitted early in the season he hadn't worked on inbounds play on a game that came down to an inbound play. Turgeon has sucked the life out of the program. it will get no better and the fan base will continue to become apathetic.

Kevin Anderson pretty much single-handedly ruined U of MD big time sports (with a big assist from Wallace Loh who got rid of Debbie Yow).
-Runs Fridge out and hires Randy Edsall
-Runs Gary out (IMO), and hires Turgeon
-Finally fires Edsall, and then hires Durkin
-Leaves the ACC for the Big10

What a damned disaster. The athletic department lost their way a long time ago...
