That's a good point. Both of those guys were far more polished coming out, and that throws those comparisons out of whack.

Honestly, Vick really is the closest comp there is.

Ultimately, I am hoping we get a better version of Philly Vick.
That's honestly the most accurate comparison IMO. He has the speed and running ability of Vick with the passing ability of Wilson.

That was what his detractors tried to claim, but it wasn't a true concern. His career college completion percentage was 67.4%, he had multiple 4K+ passing yards seasons, and his career td/int ratio was pretty close to 3:1. He also performed on the highest stage against some of the best defenses in college football.

No. Watson had a much better team around him in college. Lamar was approx as efficient a passer (similar ypa), but he did it with less.

I’d be pretty happy if he turns out to be Mike Vick with a work ethic.

But would you rather have Mariota or Watson for your Qb? Or Mahomes ? To me Mariota is a step above a bust. Him and Winston. Flops.

That's an interesting thing to say. Lamar and Watson both had approx the same number of pass attempts in college (Lamar had about 90% of the attempts Watson had), but Lamar played in a pro-style passing offense and Watson played in a simpler college offense. I would expect Lamar to be more "polished" at running an NFL passing offense.

Cam Newton also had an amazing debut, in week 1.

Wilson is an interesting comp. If you look at their stats thru three years of college, they're very similar:

    Jackson college: 619 of 1086 (57.0%) for 9,043yds (8.3ypa) with 69 TDs and 27 INTs for a passer rating of 95.1
    Wilson 1st three: 682 of 1180 (57.8%) for 8,545yds (7.2ypa) with 76 TDs and 26 INTs for a passer rating of 92.7
(that's NFL passer rating applied to college stats, not the college "rating")

Lamar looks like the better passer thru three seasons: same TD%, Lamar's yards-per is a full yard higher.
But then Wilson stayed for his senior season, and Lamar went to the NFL after 3.

So sure, Wilson was more "polished" on arrival in the NFL: he had a whole extra season of starting in college. Wilson turned 24 during his rookie season. Lamar is spending his 4th college season on the Ravens roster, playing in the NFL. He's 21.

Seems obvious to me that Lamar is far and away the better prospect. Doesn't mean he'll become a better player: growing as a player is for him to accomplish. But as a prospect Lamar is better and it's not close.

(BTW, Wilson turns 30 this month. I had no idea. He's not a "young QB" anymore, at all.)
