Burt was so great back in the day. Plenty of us wanted to be him. He did a couple movies that didn't get a lot of fuss but were really good. "W.W. and the Dixie Dance Kings" was great and "The Man Who Loved Women" was fantastic.

    RIP, Burt.

"Smokey and the Bandit" is an all-time comedy classic
In a 2003 BBC poll that asked Brits to name the "Greatest American Ever", Mr. T came in fourth, behind ML King (3rd), Abe Lincoln (2nd) and Homer Simpson (1st).

I never saw those. I had forgotten that he posed nearly naked for "Cosmopolitan" magazine Some of his biggest movies I remember were Deliverance, Smokey and the Bandit and the original The Longest yard.

I remember he played football at Florida State University but did not know this. "He became an All Star Southern Conference halfback (and was earmarked by the Baltimore Colts) before a knee injury and a car accident ended his football career. Midway through college he dropped out and headed to New York with aspirations of becoming an actor."

My wife is an FSU alumn and Burt is held in high regard in Seminole country.

BR represents the old school culture that I wish wasn’t dying out. He was a man’s man. The kinda guy who drank Schlitz and smoked filterless cigarettes and gargled bourbon. He probably literally rubbed dirt on wounds and shaved with a Brillo pad. He was a legend.

    RIP

Even if I wasn’t an FSU fan I’d still love Burt! Like Rav said ...he was a mans man. He made a ton of movies , not all great , but a lot of movies. Hooper was pretty cool. Cannonball Run is a classic. Sharky’s machine is damn good. Of course Smokey and Deliverance. I always liked Stroker Ace too.

Yep, all that and Loni Anderson too. Cincy should remember her from WKRP in Cincinnati.
