That’s the part that drives me nuts. Maybe it’s because a lot of the people who are yelling the loudest and trying to silence dissenting voices are people who haven’t studied history.

I hate to bring up Obama again, but he is a great example of how far the corruption goes because he was protected like no other political figure I can remember. I’ve listened to people argue that Obama isn’t a socialist or a Marxist. Clearly, people who make that case never read or looked into his books. It’s all there as clear as day, but sometimes people don’t like what reality is so they choose not to believe it.

Dave Rubin gave a speech recently and an older woman was interrupting his speech the whole time by shaking a tin box which had rocks in it. She was basically drowning Rubin out so no one could hear his speech. He stopped speaking and gave the woman the floor for her to state her case and engage in a discussion. She didn’t say a word and kept shaking her box. It’s sad.

From a liberals POV we went from, “Protesting is true patriotism!” To, “Any disagreement with presidential policy is ignorant, and racist clearly” (also, two journalists were wire-tapped and one thrown in prison). Meanwhile, every conservative I know is like, “Liberals are just dumb...”. Period. End of sentence. And it’s been pretty much like that for 18 years. We’ve even internally debated policy, and changed some major seats over politicians who weren’t delivering. We’ve consistently said, “Shrink the government, spend less money, it is not your job to take care of us on an individual level...”. In fact... the only people that stifle free speech, or shut down debate are liberals. How can one get behind that at all?

The game has changed in the last 15 years and in the last 2 years...it's almost unrecognizable.

Go back and listen to a JFK speech and you'll see a YUGE difference in what a liberal used to be and what they are today. If JFK were still alive, and was a member of the Democratic Party...he'd be burned at the stake for espousing the same views he had back when he was in office.

To be fair you were being called a racist by two of the silliest people I've ever seen post on this board. The "righties" on here are not silly, nor are they bigoted or any of that other shit. They're righties. That's it.

Is everything polarizing? It doesn't have to be. To be honest this speaks to something I've never understood. How can someone have party identification? Maybe in the US it's because the left and right are further apart than my countires politics spectrums, but I've changed my mind several times, including on different topics.

I typically vote conservative (similar to republican), but lately I've agreed with a lot of the liberal parties (democratic) stuff at the federal level (provincially I'm conservative). Politics are fluid. Political issues are fluid. It blows my mind when I see people stick with the same party constantly or defend their party on every single topic.

I hear people sometimes say "I'm fiscally conservative, but socially liberal". That's not a thing. That's having your cake and eating it too. You don't get to be socially liberal, but not spend money to be economically conservative.

Sure you can. Believing in personal freedoms (I.e. Not discriminating against people) while wanting a small government is not an incompatible stance.

I think that's true. I can't speak to how it works (or doesn't) in Canada, but from my view the US liberal/left wants to spend more and they want to do so either a) for causes I don't want my $ supporting in the first place, or b) in an inefficient manner like the schools example I gave where the only solution in their minds is more more more. Well, that "more" needs to come from somewhere, and their only option is higher taxation.

As far as being socially liberal, I think more in terms of social issues. Despite being more conservative, I'm for gay marriage, legalizing marijuana, higher pay for teachers (but that can be funded through efficiency, not more collections), helping the down-trodden (to get back up, not to establish a way of life), etc.

Essentially the libertarian platform.

Yes. The Libertarians are closer to my feelings these days. The Left has gone off the deep end and the Right can't stop quarreling, mainly over power.

Both the DNC and the GOP are gone. The DNC became radical and the GOP is still playing politics like it's 2012. IMO, neither represents the majority of their constituents anymore.

That’s basically the Libertarians. Our country has a blue print for how things should be. Let’s use those as a starting point and go from there. Leave all the Greed and Religion out and let’s really MAGA.

Why aren't the libertarians getting more traction? During the election they made the most sense to me. Their leader had an extreme lack of charisma though.
