Re: Bill Maher: “I hope the economy fails. Bring on the recession.”
To be fair you were being called a racist by two of the silliest people I've ever seen post on this board. The "righties" on here are not silly, nor are they bigoted or any of that other shit. They're righties. That's it.
Is everything polarizing? It doesn't have to be. To be honest this speaks to something I've never understood. How can someone have party identification? Maybe in the US it's because the left and right are further apart than my countires politics spectrums, but I've changed my mind several times, including on different topics.
I typically vote conservative (similar to republican), but lately I've agreed with a lot of the liberal parties (democratic) stuff at the federal level (provincially I'm conservative). Politics are fluid. Political issues are fluid. It blows my mind when I see people stick with the same party constantly or defend their party on every single topic.
I hear people sometimes say "I'm fiscally conservative, but socially liberal". That's not a thing. That's having your cake and eating it too. You don't get to be socially liberal, but not spend money to be economically conservative."Cause if you ain’t pissed off for greatness, that just means you’re okay with being mediocre, and ain’t no man in here okay with just basic.”

Re: Bill Maher: “I hope the economy fails. Bring on the recession.”
The problem is that the loudest voices are to the extremes - far left and far right. I used to think that more of the average Americans were closer to the center, but I think in the last several years the division/identity politics has pushed more to the side that they previously leaned to. I'm an independent, but do lean more to the right.
I disagree that you can't be fiscally conservative but socially liberal. That assumes that being socially liberal means you have to have high government spending on social causes. I believe in lower taxes and lower government spending. I believe in investment in education, military, police/fire/emergency services. But I don't equate more $ to more benefit. Look at Baltimore City public schools. Highest spending in the state by any measure. I think it's 3rd highest in the country on a per pupil basis. But where are the results? It's because that money does not get to the classrooms. It's a broken system with no accountability.

Re: Bill Maher: “I hope the economy fails. Bring on the recession.”
Mission 1 for the left is to get rid of Donald Trump period, at all cost, and if Trump somehow pulls this off, they probably will not get their wish in 2020. Bill Mahr wanting a recession is just an example of the left rooting for Trump's failure at the country's expense. Saying everyone on the left is an exaggeration on my part, I will admit that, but I'm sure there are more than you think. The MSM will have a difficult time reporting a successful agreement, if somehow it does happen, and will pick it apart, all the while ignoring the Iran so called "deal". You, living in Hawaii, have a little more of a rooting interest in this than most, but it still effects everyone, obviously. Question, if Trump succeeds in getting a denuclearizing agreement, would you likely vote for him in 2020?

Re: Bill Maher: “I hope the economy fails. Bring on the recession.”
I think that's true. I can't speak to how it works (or doesn't) in Canada, but from my view the US liberal/left wants to spend more and they want to do so either a) for causes I don't want my $ supporting in the first place, or b) in an inefficient manner like the schools example I gave where the only solution in their minds is more more more. Well, that "more" needs to come from somewhere, and their only option is higher taxation.
As far as being socially liberal, I think more in terms of social issues. Despite being more conservative, I'm for gay marriage, legalizing marijuana, higher pay for teachers (but that can be funded through efficiency, not more collections), helping the down-trodden (to get back up, not to establish a way of life), etc.

Re: Bill Maher: “I hope the economy fails. Bring on the recession.”
You guys have to remember that a lot of the Left want “globalization “. A World Economy. That way the Sorros’ of the world would rule with absolute power. By “routing “ for a recession it’s just part of their plan come to light. If the US Econ could somehow “collapse “ and our credit rating be lowered by the rest of the world...we’d be ripe for a “take over”. World Socialism would be the plan of the day. If the Dems got the Econ collapse and then won the election with a hard Leftist...we’d be primed to join the EU , World Bank and maybe start using the EURO for currency. Big expensive Fed Gov ( puppets for the 1%) would be the thing of the day. Lots of gov hand outs and lots of gov control over everything.

Re: Bill Maher: “I hope the economy fails. Bring on the recession.”
Sad, sometimes I actually enjoy his show and I absolutely loved his documentary on religion called Religulous, but his whining is absolutely gotten out of control much as the people he aligns with. I actually really enjoyed Chelsea Handler's show....until the day after Trump and she went on air and cried for what seemed the whole show...seriously. gtfo
This just goes to show that no matter what Trump does the majority of the people that didn't vote for him will never give him credit for anything he does

Re: Bill Maher: “I hope the economy fails. Bring on the recession.”
Spot on Lax.
“Their” interests are different than ours. We are simply the people who fund the system they’ve controlled for decades. Trump’s election was the “oh shit” moment “they” feared. What did Soros recently say? “What could go wrong has gone wrong.” He is 100% correct. The people who pull the strings behind the scenes want more control. Under the last administration, “they” were given more control and set on their preferred path. The current administration is setting that path on fire.
My fear is that Trump may have delayed the inevitable. Or...he changed the game forever. We (the people who fund this system) are onto their bullshit. It’s a bad scene if you are a deep state player. Hilary said it best...”if he wins, he’ll hang us all from nooses”...or something like that.
