    The Video Game Thread

One of my favorite OT threads is the TV/Movies thread. Great way to have non-controversial convos on this sub thread

Anyone doing any gaming these days? I have a PS4 and primarily I've been playing NBA2k18, Fortnite (ADDICTING), COD WWII and I go back and play GTA V all the time.

if you're into city builders I picked up a copy of Cities: Skylines. It's basically sim city but mroe focused on road construction and zoning. It's one of my favorite ways to burn 2 hours and take my mind off of stress. Highly recommend and it's now on xbox and PS4 after being exclusively PC for a few years.

    Anyone else?

Also if you're PS4 and wanna game send me your gamertag.

Im an XboxOne guy. I haven't really gotten into the online gameplay, but I'm a huge fan of RPG's like GTAV, RDR, Fallout 4, and Skyrim.

I'm currently in the midst of Skyrim and holy shit is it addicting. I've started modding it up and that really makes the game even better.

Bethesda Games and Rockstar Games are 2 companies I will pretty much buy any game they release because their games are always amazing.

I'm looking forward to the RDR sequel that's supposed to be coming out soon? They keep pushing back the release date.

    Great thread!

I think it comes out in October Maniac.

Rockstar is one of the best gaming companies in existence. Their trick? They wait. Sports games are a great contrast. They release yearly games and I get it you'll get repeat buyers who want new rosters and everything. But the games EA makes, for example, are becoming so piss poor with very little added that people are really starting to quit buying them. I am entering that boat except for NBA2k because they constantly provide strong additions to make each year better.

Rockstar strategically releases their games far apart from one another and puts a shit ton of effort itno each one. GTA V was in liek 2013. Through their online presence they keep people interested. I pick it up and put it down all the time and have for 5 years. It feels jsut as good everytime I get back into it.

RDR2 is no doubt going to be good and I have nothing but confidence when I pick up one of Rockstars games that it'll be a hit. Their reputation is second to note. I think I'm going to re-play RDR to re-orient myself.

    agreed on all accounts.

The COD franchise is suffering because they take the complete opposite approach and churn out titles like a fast food restaurant does burgers.

RDR and GTA are their cornerstone franchises and Rockstar is milking them both as long as they can...and rightfully so. RDR2 is something all gamers are waiting for. I just replayed RDR to get myself re-aquainted, and it's not even a nextGen console game, but damn do the graphics hold up. There's a reason no other gaming company has touched the Western genre. Rockstar's production of it can never be duplicated...so...why bother?

    Re: The Video Game Thread

Video games are basically all I do besides movies LOL. I have all the current systems and many of the older systems dating back to the original Atari 2600. Will have to post pictures of my game room sometime.

Have been playing Dead by Daylight mostly recently, which is a multiplayer horror game where 4 survivors have to escape from 1 killer by repairing generators to power exit gates. I've put over 200 hours into it since it launched and I see no end in sight. I play this mostly on PC but I have it on X1 also and it is out for PS4 too.

Have also been playing Fortnite like everyone else on the planet, God of War (which is a masterpiece), and just got the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection yesterday which I played some last night and is a blast online. My wife and I usually play a few rounds of Mario Kart on Switch before bed too.

That sounds amazing, maybe ill have to look at a youtube video of it

There was one game that came out awhile back, I cant remember the name, but you had to survive a zombie outbreak and it was in real time with day and night changing and I believe it was an online open world style, which ive never played but that does interest me

EA is video game cancer. Everything they touch turns to crap. They have no imagination in making new games, and would rather milk a franchise license for everything it's worth. They also engage in abusive pricing practices (see the class action lawsuit regarding Madden stemming from the short lived competition from 2k sports).

It was heartbreaking to see Lucasarts destroyed and all the licenses sent off to EA. It guarantees that we will never see a good Star Wars video game until such a day comes that Disney decides to get out of the arrangement.

It's fucking awesome. I love it. They have licensed killers in it too - Michael Myers, Freddy (although it's the 2010 version), Amanda (Jigsaw's protege) from the Saw series, and Leatherface. They also have Laurie Strode, Detective Tapp, and Quintin from the newest Freddy movie as survivors. You have to pay extra for them, but $6 to play as Michael Myers stalking random people is money well spent. Great game, I can't say enough good things about it.

Not sure of the game you are talking about, maybe State of Decay?

I enjoyed the newest Battlefront's single player, but it was too short and the multiplayer was a mess at launch with the loot boxes. That's not an EA specific thing, though. I do agree in general EA is a terrible company.

I buy Madden from EA but that's it. I have EA Access and play any of the other games of theirs I'm interested in when they hit that, no way I'm giving them $60 per game.

I was just playing NFL 2k5 on the original Xbox a couple weeks ago and it really shocked me how good that game still is today. From an animation perspective I think it looks better than Madden ever has, even today. Everything is so fluid and lifelike, not robotic like Madden always has been.

    PS4: SikotikJ30 (don't ask)
Xbox: stopthatmonkey (will be changing when I can cuz it was pointed out that could be taken the wrong way)
Steam: currently Chef Gordon Ramsay (complete with Gordon Ramsay "It's fucking raw" avatar) but I change it often, last week it was notjoeflacco

I don't want an arcade level Star Wars game. I want the immersion I got with the X-Wing series (I started playing through those again a while ago - holy hell is X-Wing tough, and TIE Fighter is even worse on the difficulty ranking). XvT was never really about a single player experience, but it came with the bundle. XWA was a fun game, and the XWA Upgrade project that's been going on for 15+ years is impressive. Being chased down by a true-to-movie scale (the full 19km version, not the 8km version originally designed for the game) Super Star Destroyer is not much better than a suicide run. Well, depending on the difficulty level.
