All of a sudden - the Ravens are very young.

Just looking over the roster and the Ravens have gotten very young across the board.

For example, the oldest WR/TE is Michael Crabtree at 30. They only have 10 players over 30 (including Crabtree at 30).

    Sam Koch, 35
    Terrell Suggs, 35
    Joe Flacco, 33
    Eric Weddle, 33
    Marshal Yanda, 33
    Morgan Cox, 32
    Brandon Carr, 31
    Anthony Levine, 31
    Albert McClellan, 31
    Michael Crabtree, 30

The average age of the team right now is 24.73 years.

    Good topic/post.

you wouldnt have thought it, with us being one of the older teams the past couple of years.

as middle of the pack this team has been, thats mostly been with older vets doing the heavy lifting, while overhauling the roster. Were now going to start seeing what all those draft picks can do for better or worse.

At the start of 2017 (final 53-man roster), the Ravens were 8th oldest at 26.42 years. The difference between youngest (Cleveland, 24.24) and oldest (Cardinals, 27.28) was only 3.04 years.

This isn't as surprising to me as it might be to others. The Ravens have been working on youth since the superbowl. For example, the 2013 roster only had five (5) players at 30 or older. One of those five was the punter, Sam Koch.

Right now there's 10 players at 30 or older, but in 2015 there were only 9 players over 27.

Last season, there were only 12 players above 26, and that's because they signed multiple old vets (Carr, Watson, Howard, and Maclin). Of course all of them were in positions of need at the time. The Ravens have been moving towards being a young team for awhile, they just keep getting derailed by desperation for talent that doesn't always work out (looking at you Maclin)

At least 5 of them are in their last year with the team. Would probably remove Special Teamers from list as age is really not all that important for a snapper or a punter.

I cant stress enough how vital it is for us to start trusting, relying on our young players. Bowser and Tim Williams need to be on the field the majority of snaps this year
    Burn it down

Don't forget Za and Judon. They're both pretty young and they've shown a lot more than either Williams or Bowser.

Jimmy Smith will be 30 in July, so there's at least one more name to be considered 30 or above before the season opener.

The 5 youngest guys on the team:

    Lamar Jackson, 21
    Jordan Lasley, 21
    DeShone Elliot, 21
    Marlon Humphrey, 21
    Randin, Crecelius, 21

4 out of those guys will be major contributors and starters. Humphrey and Jackson have the chance at being legitimate stars. Lasley could too.

these draft picks have to start becoming a vital piece of this team. It's time they cement themselves more so the draft picks of the last 3 years and some of them are starting to like Judon, Z.Smith somewhat, some guys got hurt like but that will only help boost the team when they come healthy.

Based on recent drafts there are some young guys on D which is exciting. Just hoping Wink does a better job and gives them a shot.

The conservative approach was pretty obvious last year with Bowser. He was getting PT and had the really bad game against Jax and then he basically didnt play again. Judon stepped up huge and stole a lot of that PT, but there were other ways to get him on the field.

I just don't want the cookie cutter approach anymore. Move guys around, find ways to get them on the field. Even Pees has done it beforew ith McPhee. He's a natural edge rusher, but he lined him up inside to get him on the field and get some interior pressure. Could have done something similar with Bowser last year, rush him from the inside linebacker spot or something.

I still really like the idea of trying Bowser out at WILL.
