    Weddle On Wink

    http://www.latimes.com/bs-sp-ravens-...417-story.html

Perhaps the biggest difference will not be in which plays are called but in the Ravens' flexibility and responsibilities on the field before they're executed. Safety Eric Weddle said Martindale's new defense will "give us the ability to react and change on the fly and not be so blackboard [of a] defense, black and white, 'This is what we do versus this.' "

As an example, Weddle said he and Mosley could, after noting an opposing offense's pre-snap formation and motion, tell certain players along the defensive line to remain in their blitz package, knowing that he could cover for them, if needed. Weddle, who has started 32 games over his two seasons with the Ravens, said the defense never was afforded such a privilege previously.
This is kinda exciting to me because it always seemed like Pees had a very "my way/by the book" feel about him, which means players would be thinking about executing the play design instead of playing the game. Remember all the "technique issues?" Wink giving players more responsibility to react should mean we at least don't become the same team that's easy to beat in the 4th quarter because the offense knows what's coming.

It definitely sounds good. We’ll see if Harbaugh is ok with it come September.

I mean...why spend on veteran players if you’re not going to let them lead on the field?

Giving Mosley more strategical responsibility is concerning.

He called a Nick Saban led defense... don’t underestimate the ability.

It's hard to say. Apparently Pees handcuffed the players and they couldn't become play-makers. Perhaps, we didn't get a chance to see what Mosley & the others could do. I think that opposing offenses probably knew what was coming with Pees calling the plays, as he wasn't very creative, especially in blitz packages. Of course, I think that a coordinator being creative is frowned upon within the Raven's organization. Anyway, it's been said muliple times over the past few years that our defensive players are too busy worrying about where they're supposed to be rather than playing football.

Even if this is your stance, wouldn't you want him to show his aptitude for it (or lack thereof) before they sign him to an extension?

This is kind of what we complained about when Cam ran his offense, right?

I mean, it's a change at least. Let's see how well it works out

What is wrong with John Harbaugh? Is he some sort of insecure, ego-maniacal control freak?

I'd rather give those roles to players with the football IQ for it.

Where is the evidence that Mosley doesn't have a good football IQ?
