    Music Thread

Not sure this will catch on or not but while posting in the movies thread I had the idea that maybe a music one would be good too. Thinking we can share music tastes and perhaps we'll find some new favorites, artists we've never heard of, etc.

I've recently gotten back into drumming, played for 17 years from 10-27 then gave them up for a few years due to moving to an apartment. No longer apartment living so I'm back at it and thus have been listening to a lot of the great/my favorite drummers. So some recommendations for some kickass drumming:

    Dream Theater/Mike Portnoy - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wa8p2egcBg
    Rush/Neil Peart - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEuOoMprDqg
    Blink182/Travis Barker - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RF9TN_3nHrQ
    Avenged Sevenfold/The Rev - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OR0f3qtadjg
    Slipknot/Joey Jordison - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLubS6QOMsQ
    Tool/Danny Carey - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2NJbRF4CgAA
    Slayer/Dave Lombardo - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDkUSIslK-U
    Mastodon/Brann Dailor - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLsd1iCEIPU

What have you guys been listening to lately?

I’m not a drummer so I can’t speak to the technical issues but I always thought John Bonham was amazing

nice thread. I'm more into music than movies/tv. my tastes really run the gamut... from 60s/70s classic rock, to 90s alternative, to motown/soul, to southern rock/bllues, to ska (yes, make fun of me), to samba/bossa nova to... pretty much anything except bubble gum pop. not a huge fan of today's rap and country, but I do like older stuff (and by older country, I mean the "outlaw" type like Cash, Jennings, Nelson).

current bands/artists I enjoy: Revivalists, Jack White, J. Roddy Walston and the Business, Leon Bridges, Fratellis, Gary Clark Jr., Record Company...could go on!

Mike Portnoy is one of my favorites. Have you ever listened to his side project band The Winery Dogs?

    Fucking awesome.

Saw Avenged Sevenfold and Volbeat last summer at M&T. They opened for Metallica.

    What a fantastic show.

CKY’s newest release is decent. It’s missing some of that old school CKY aggression now that the lead singer is gone.

I’m hoping to get back to NOLA soon. The music and overall atmosphere there is incredible.
