    Calvin Ridley

Ok most mocks have us taking Ridley at #16 but is he the kind of receiver we want at 16? Supposedly he's 6'1" at 190 lbs. Out of the games I've watched he's never really popped off the screen and his season stats to me don't look all that special. The Ravens shouldn't be getting a smaller route runner at receiver in the first round. Someone like James Washington/Courtland Sutton should be the pick. They're the big possession/speed threats we need immediately. It seems you could find those route runner guys like Ridley later on so why spend a pick early now? Am I just missing something on Ridley? Per ESPN this is Ridley's stats for this past season:

Also here are measurements of each player:

    Ridley- 6'1" 190
Washington- 6'0" 205 (edit: just noticed Washington is shorter, but to me he popped off the screen and made contested jump balls easily)
    Sutton 6'4" 216

Hed probably become our best route runner but that isn't saying much. Hands can be shaky and hasn't got a great deal of size. I asked some draft gurus on this board about him a while back, and they aren't very high on him.

Ridley will struggle in the pros. He has no chance unless he's wide open. You can do that in college given the time a QB has to throw and the speed differential vs. defenders. That just doesn't happen that often in the pros. I see Travis Benjamin in Ridley which is okay but certainly not 1st round.

Totally agree. I wouldn't put him first on my wish list. Sutton is a much better fit for the Ravens and does the sort of things you're talking about. While Ridley can get separation, I'm not sure Flacco is accurate enough to take advantage of that. Joe has always done well with slower receivers who have a big catch radius and can grab balls in traffic--Boldin, Pitta, Watson, Smith, Mason--or someone who can outrun a defense. That was supposed to be Perriman but I don't think he ever had the route running ability and the offensive line hasn't been great at giving them enough time to let a nine route or go route develop.

To beat a dead horse, DJ Moore is also a great fit and someone I really covet.

Typical overthinking that occurs with big name prospects. He's legit. Watch the tape. Comp is Michael Thomas mixed with Emmanuel Sanders. It's simple guys.

He has no ability to make contested catches. He hasn't shown any heart at the WR position.
    Burn it down

Exactly. That's why so many of us wanted JuJu last year. He's the opposite. The speed isn't great but that skill set is built for the NFL. When you look at the rookie corners this year like Humphrey and Lattimore and White what they all have in common is a physicality to their play. You need receivers that can compete against those kind of corners. The John Ross types with all that speed and dancing moves are not going to do it anymore.

That's why Sutton is my favorite, and I hope we land him @ #16... Bc

I haven't decided yet. I definitely like Sutton but I'm not convinced that I'd take him at #16 and I doubt he'll fall lower. Sutton just doesn't seem to ever get open. He's great in traffic but in the top half of the first round I'd want more separation from defenders. He also vanished against good competition. Those who like Sutton think he's the next Dez Bryant. Those who hate him think he's the next Laquan Treadwell. Both of those pro comps are actually pretty good. SMU is not a school I watch during the season so I have to check out more youtube before I'm sure where Sutton fits between those extremes. I've seen both cases in what I've watched to date.

The thing that bugs me is that if he's such a lock as a prospect why isn't he feasting on those no name schools listed above in his stats as well as showing up for big time games. Against Auburn he was 3-38 with his longest being a 26 yard catch. In the Championship game even he was 4-32 with only a TD. Against SEC teams he's averaging 67 yards a game. If he's a badass prospect wouldn't he be feasting over everyone?
