    Re: The Movies/TV thread

Speaking of horror, anyone watched Ju-On: Origins on Netflix? It is a prequel show to The Grudge films...it is an extremely bleak and brutal show. There's nothing positive here...it's really dark. Like I watch a lot of underground horror, I've seen Serbian Film and August Underground and such, and while this isn't quite that level, it really isn't that far off. It's a rough watch.

FYI it's Japanese with an English dub. You can watch it in original Japanese as well, but my Japanese isn't quite strong enough to understand it all and I didn't feel like reading subs.

I've mentioned AU a few times but never posted the trailer. This is super underground stuff. This is not a recommendation, but if you want something that's going to shock and disgust you, this is it. Take SAW, turn it up to 50, and that's what this is. There is no plot, no point to the film other than to shock you and gross you out. The gore effects are so realistic that the director was actually arrested entering Canada because authorities thought he was transporting a real snuff film.

I do not know how anyone can actually sit through and watch any of these sick ass movies. I just literally have no stomach for gross dumb shit like this and the people who create these movies are seriously depraved and should be on some watch list from authorities.

Another good movie on TV that I caught most of was late 90'S Out of Sight. Great movie, J Lo was just so damn sexy in this movie. Very under rated movie.

On a much, much lighter note I actually had time today to watch a movie and chose 2015 Hostiles with Christian Bale. Great movie, love movies that reflect this era of history. Bale is phenomenal in just about any movie he makes. He is right there with Morgan Freeman regarding I cannot honestly think of a bad movie I have ever watched them in. Bale and Morgan Freeman might be my two favorite male actors of all time. I cannot think of a bad movie either of them has made.

I know Al Pacino and Robert Deniro get alot of the talk but I can point to a few bad movies from both of those actors. I honestly cannot think of a bad Morgan Freeman role or Christian Bale even going back to Bales early days. He has been a great actor for a while now. Seems to be a bit of a nut off screen unlike Morgan Freeman though.

I have entrered the chat. I love messed up movies that are sick, but my stipulation is that it has to be a good movie. It can't juet be a gore porn ie cannibal holocaust. Say what you will about Serbian Film, most fucked up movie prolly, but it's actually a good movie (please don't ban me). I also can't deal with any surgery type stuff, just can't.

I've tried watching hostiles twice, fell asleep twice.

Tried watchinf The Thing, in sorry, I couldn't finish it. Thought it was just dumb as shit.

    Re: The Movies/TV thread

Ju-On Origins isn't really gross...it's not overly violent outside of a couple spots - it's just sick. Spoilers ahead - there is a rape scene at the start of episode 2 that is pretty intense and that's not even the worst thing in the show. There is a young girl (young...like elementary school age) that is beaten off screen by a kidnapper, which you hear but don't see. There is a scene involving a pregnant woman, her deranged husband, and a knife. It's intention was to tell the story of why the house from The Grudge is so full of rage and it definitely does that.

Serbian Film is gross and I will not watch it again, but it does tell an interesting story.

It's funny I can watch the violence against people all day but I will never watch Cannibal Holocaust or any of those other cannibal films from that era that killed real, live animals during filming.

    Re: The Movies/TV thread

We've watched a few movies recently.

Observe and Report - older Seth Rogen movie, one of the few of his I'd never seen. Low brow entertainment as most Rogen movies are, but was pretty funny to me.

Scary Movie - have seen this before of course, 90% of this movie could not be made today for fear of offending pretty much all of civilization, and it's generally very, very dumb, but still makes me laugh.

Poltergeist - the original, we watched after watching the remake. I honestly forgot how good this movie is. Fantastic across the board and the old school effects are so fun. This movie must have been horrifying to audiences when it was originally released.

    Re: The Movies/TV thread

Teaser trailer for Halloween Kills dropped yesterday, as well as news that it's been pushed back a year to next Halloween. From the trailer it looks like they will get around the ending of the 2018 film by having firefighters put out the fire before Michael is dead.

Movies that are vehicles for over the top gory special effects don't really do it for me either. The Hostel movies are disgusting. The Saw movies are disgusting. Couldn't agree with you more.

I appreciate the torture porn genre and associated films for the VFX and makeup work. Totally get that they are not for everyone.

Hostel made my stomach hurt the first time I saw it, because of how believable it was.

Actually, follow up to that. Here's what actually scares me in movies. Stuff that is based in reality. I'm sure many of you have seen The Strangers - that is one of my favorite horror films and is legitimately scary to me. Ghost stuff? Not really.

This is how I think about it. Ill catch shit for this, but Blair aeitch has always creeper me out. I don't view it as a witch but just as someone terrozing others in the woods.

Observe and Report is funny. Definitely underrated.

Scary Movie I love the original movies. They were all funny and always enjoy watching them.

Poltergeist the original was good for its time. I watched it quite few years back and thought at the time its effects were not all that great and it was kind of dumb but it was good for its era.

Regarding Halloweeen getting pushed back, that sucks, I would definitely shell out $20 on Demand to watch that. I thought the 2018 movie was decent, but it had some pretty blatantly dumb parts.
