Re: The Movies/TV thread
Haha I mean, there are different levels of messed up... like, I'd say Bug is pretty messed up in a sense that it's psychologically disturbing, just the way one person's crazy can effect another if they're desperate to hold onto something.
Gory thriller wise, and still what I would consider a good movie, I'd go with one of two French horror films from the last decade... either Inside or Martyrs.
Gross out... Flying Lotus made a movie this year called Kuso and I haven't finished it yet. It's on Shudder. It's this weird post apocalyptic grotesque freak out of a movie. I might have a hard time calling it good, but it's definitely its own thing and that in itself is commendable.
And finally, black and white and fucked up all over, there's a movie called Begotten which is just at times hard to look at... there's so much self mutilation and gore, but all shot in this like ultra chromatic black and silver/white so the black is so black that at times you don't know what you're looking at... which makes you fill in the blanks of what you're seeing... so you become complicit in your own unconfortableness... also it's some weird metaphor for the creation of the universe. Basically it makes mother! look like Driving Miss Daisy. Again, is it good? I don't know. But it's its own thing.
Also of course now that I've brought up mother! I'm reminded of Requiem For a Dream... which very good. And very uncomfortable. I'd stay messed up at times...
I'll stop there because this has already spiraled out of control lol.

Re: The Movies/TV thread
Well, looks like I have a couple to check out. I haven't even seen Mother yet either. Requiem is a cult classic
A Serbian Film. Full movie is on youtube. Retired porn star is hurting for money, signs a blind contract with some genius new and up and coming director. Be very, very sure you want to watch something messed up. Wouldn't watch it with a gf or anything, just to be safe.
I like your style...and knowledge of cinema.

Re: The Movies/TV thread
So not a TV show, but it's on TV...
Watched "who killed Tupac" on A & E. It was interesting, not the most well done show ever but it's descent.
Surprise to see how many theories there are out there. Anyone else watch it?

Re: The Movies/TV thread
Thanks, man! You've made a really great thread here.
mother! is my favorite movie of this year so far, but I think audiences gave it an F on cinemascore so I'm hesitant to recommend it most of the time. I'll just say that they don't really tell you who's who in the movie, but to me, it works best as biblical allegory mixed with environmentalism. That's kinda what his Noah is too, though obviously that's a little more up front about the biblical stuff. mother! is more of a trip though.
And I totally forgot about A Serbian Film! Probably because I never saw it, but it was one I'd always hear about when I was deep in my French horror phase. But then i couldn't find it anywhere and was reluctant to just biy a copy. Thanks for bringing it up and letting me know it's on YouTube. I'll have to finally check it out!

Re: The Movies/TV thread
Will do! I was just gonna say I'll try to watch Saturday morning, but then I remembered that's when our Star Wars tix are for. That's what I get for waiting until last week to buy them... only the Saturday 9:30 am showing had seats other than right up front available...
