Re: Chemistry vs just plain sucking
True, but they are the same WR type. Straight line speed. looks fast in shorts. Questionable hands.
Once they are on the field they lack the ability to get open, and if they do, chances are they arent going to make the catch.
Torrey smith > Darrius Hayward Bey > Yamon Figurs > BP.
All stiff, top end speed with ????? hands

Re: Chemistry vs just plain sucking
Torrey put up a lot of touchdowns and made a lot of important plays for a guy who apparently can't get open and dropping a ton of balls....smh
There is nothing wrong with a guy who's primary skill is speed and maybe can't run the entire route tree at a high level. But shit, when you are getting open way down the field on a regular basis and making big plays, that doesn't mean that there isn't a big role on the team for that WR. Torrey was a great deep threat here. Impacted the offense in a level that helped win a Super Bowl. Same thing with Wallace in his prime in Pittsburgh...they didn't win it that year, but he impacted the offense. And I mean let's be real here...Torrey had a bad case of drops in a couple preseason games and afterwards, had solid hands, no they weren't great, but it wasn't a case where throw it to him, it hits his hands and you are praying he held on. Torrey's hands were ok.
It's like all anybody can remember from his time here was the last play in New England and the frustration that some had that he wasn't a #1 WR. If Perriman can give us anything close to what Torrey did when he was here, no he won't be a top flight WR, but we'd get a quality starting WR.Although Walsh's system of offense can compensate for lack of talent; however, defense is a different story. According to Walsh, talent on defense was essential and could not be compensated for. What did Walsh do in 1981? He acquired physical and talented players on defense.

Re: Chemistry vs just plain sucking
Ravens have often paired younger speed guys (Torrey, Jacoby, Wallace, Perriman) with veteran guys with good hands (Mason, Boldin, SSSr, Maclin). When the Ravens offense could run the ball and take good shots down the field, it worked well. But last couple of years, the Ravens couldn't run the ball and weren't converting deep passes, leading to the checkdown offense we saw last year.
This year, the run game has improved, but due to the patchwork OL, offensive scheme, and/or lack of chemistry between Joe and the WRs, the effective deep ball is MIA. If MM can get that going, we might get back to top half of the league in offense. Between Wallace and Perriman we have guys that can make it happen.
