I think if you look at what both sides brought to the protest neither was interested in peaceful assembly.

Honestly, I think Trump was right to condemn violence period regardless where it comes from or whom it directed to but honestly who doesn't want to see Nazis get the crap beaten out of them so it's not an argument he's going to win.

I feel that most people are missing the boat here. The ones who are causing problems in this nation are populists be they right-wing or left-wing. I cannot tell much of a difference between the Trumpites and the Berniebots.

I agree. Both sides throw the same arguments and just interchange "lefties" with "righties".

That's politics though. If you do it you're bad. If we do it, it's just the way it works.

The examples are clear as day in these threads.

So yeah why Terry allowed these two armed groups to meet and engage in violence I don't know. I mean I have some theories of why but I really hope they are not true.

This is a great point and one that hardly anyone is talking about.

Shame on Terry McAuliffe for not putting a stop to this the moment he saw guys rolling into town in tactical gear, armed with riot shields, and weapons. That's not indicative of a group looking for a peaceful protest/demonstration. That's a group looking for a fight and wanting to make sure they had the biggest stick.

Antifa has been instigating violence for over a year now. People are getting tired of it because there's only so many times you can be punched before someone punches back. If people would listen to the rhetoric coming from the left, they'd see which group is condoning violence. When is the last time anybody heard a democrat condemn Antifa? Yeah, none.

Of course we do have people blaming the KKK for the violence. I can only tell you what happened recently. A few months back there was a gay pride parade here in town. Just as it was starting I got a phone call that the Klan had organized a counter-protest in one of the local parks, so I went to keep an eye on things. Not that I can stop a full blown riot by myself, but there were a couple of folks I care about in the parade and was gonna do my best to keep them safe. Talk about a complete waste of time. The two groups could see each other, but remained far apart. There was no yelling, no bottle throwing, no nothing. I honestly believe they might've gotten together afterwards for a BBQ, but can't confirm.

That's the way it should be. Two groups that disagree just staying apart from each other. There is no need for violence.

EDIT: I've read, with no proof outside of supposed eye witnesses, that police were funneling the Alt-Right into the Antifa/BLM groups and that's where the violence erupted. What everyone has forgotten is that the alt-right had the legal right to be there. To me this smells like a setup.

Wow, that's stunningly uninformed and misleading. I consider myself to be liberal but definitely not a communist. And as for the Stalin like regimes- they were not true socialism (and essentially showed why Communism doesn't work in practice) as their regimes were still predicated on the ruling parties having all the wealth and power and it wasn't under the guise of 'communism' that dissidents and political opponents were eliminated, it was to protect those in power from being overthrown.

The Antifa organisation are violent, it's true. I'm not condoning their actions and they certainly don't reflect the beliefs of 99.99%+ of liberals. But to say rioting and punching in any way equates to a stated desire to have ethnic minorities and Jews systematically wiped from the Earth is truly despicable.
