    R.I.P. Chris Cornell

What a stone cold bummer to wake up to.

Soundgarden was my favorite band through high school. Chris unarguably had the best voice in the Seattle scene. I would say he had one that transcended genres (as was evident on his debut solo album). And he was a fantastic songwriter.

    I'm gonna miss him.

I was going to see them in Houston and Dallas in a week. This wouldn't have surprised me in the nineties (particularly if you read the lyrics to many of the songs on Superunknown or his first solo album. But I really thought he had come a long way from that reflected in the lyrics to all his work from 2000 until now. Much more positive vibe over much of that work especially Audioslave. He still could write some deep sad songs but just seemed so structured and content. You just never really know what's happening in anyone's head. Look at Robin Williams! Some sad shit for sure. I truly feel for his family right now especially his three children. Such a talented artist that left way too soon. RIP

Think the album after superunknown was actually the first one I bought as a kid on my own. Shame to see him go out like that.

And he hung himself? Absolutely terrible.

Cornell was one of my favorites. His voice was incredible.

"Fell on Black Days" was like this ongoing fear I've had for years...It's a feeling that everyone gets. You're happy with your life, everything's going well, things are exciting—when all of a sudden you realize you're unhappy in the extreme, to the point of being really, really scared. There's no particular event you can pin the feeling down to, it's just that you realize one day that everything in your life is FUCKED![3]

I'm sure he probably struggled with depression for a long time

That's true. As someone who's dealt with or known people with mental health issues. Chemical imbalance and it can be set off by just mixing (or simply taking) the wrong prescription and out of nowhere; sheer dread smacks one like a tone of bricks. Hard for some who haven't dealt with it to grasp, yet easy to judge. He talked about it in interviews over the years as well. I remember listening to "In Utero" at 14 and thinking "God damn, this guy is really fucking miserable!" The Rome suicide attempt followed shortly after and by the time it did happen, sadly I wasn't surprised. That album was a suicide note in many ways. Superunknown and Down on the Upside had many parallels in that asthetc as well IMHO. But then you have The Cure and REM, NIN and they're still moving. I don't know what happened for sure in his head, but I'll miss him and Soundgarden. Thanks for the music Chris! RIP :(

I didn't even think about that. Who knows he could have been having trouble at home. One of my favorite solo songs
