2018 Draft Thread -- because the "off-season" is when you get better!!!
Nope. That ain't no typo!
First of all, I was all-in on Arkansas center, Frank Ragnow, back in October 2016.
Raven or not, I love him.

And remember...UDFA receivers are where you find 'em, not where you look for 'em!

Razorbacks Oline outweighs every Oline in the NFL. That's some serious beef.

You beat me BPR!
I had a 'players to watch' post and a Clemson prospect primer saved and ready to go. Have to post those tomorrow now, I guess.

Re: 2018 Draft Thread -- because the "off-season" is when you get better!!!
Early favorite for #1 overall: Sam Darnold – Big frame, big arm. Showed arm talent and leadership in turning USC’s season around. Superb production and 9-1 as a starter.
Mr. Overrated: Calvin Ridley, WR Alabama – Production declined (likely due to QB play, to be fair) his sophomore season. Draft stock inflated due to recruiting status and freshman production (when he was 21). Will turn 24 his rookie season, and it’s his first draft-eligible season. To put his age in perspective, he’s only 6 months younger than Amari Cooper.
Wildcard: Lamar Jackson - As electric a player with the ball in his hands as college football has seen in a while, but he won’t play QB in the NFL. Is he a WR? A RB? A return specialist? No one really knows at this point.

Re: 2018 Draft Thread -- because the "off-season" is when you get better!!!
Clemson Primer
Certified bad-ass, high first rounder all day
Christian Wilkins, DT (Junior). 6’4”, 315
An elite player the moment he arrived on campus. Quick, powerful, and unblockable 1-on-1. Moved to DE his true sophomore season to fill a lack of depth created by injury (in a base 4-3 system). Gregarious leader off the field.
No-hyperbole comparison: Ndamukong Suh.
Can move into the first with a good year
Clelin Ferrell, DE (Junior) - Prototypical size (6'5", 265). Powerful, flexible, and explosive athlete. Really emerged as a pass rushing terror in the CFP. Needs to refine his technique--he's a bit like Khalil Mack his rookie year in teh NFL--a lot of "almost" sacks. Could be a 15 sack player this fall.
Deon Cain, WR (Junior) - Smooth, explosive athlete at receiver with decent size (6'1", 210). Easy change of direction and has shown the ability to track the deep ball. A threat to go the distance every play, whether it's beating the defense over the top, or making something happen with the ball in his hands. Has had some problems with concentration drops. A bit of a knucklehead off the field, but not a complete asshole (academics and "violations of team rules").
Mitch Hyatt, OT (Junior)- Started every game since he set foot on campus as a true freshman. Has given up 3 sacks over that time frame, and Clemson has thrown the ball over 1500 times (don't have more specific pass attempt-to-sack ratio for him, unfortunately). Great hands and nimble feet. Would like to see more punch out of his stance and power in the running game. His draft stock hinges hugely on his testing, IMO. If he's a legit 6'5" with decent arms and 310+, he's got first round potential. If he's more like 6'4", 285 with short arms, he's a day 2-3 guy.
Potentially Draftable
Mark Fields, CB (Junior) - Athletic with some length. Showed a lot of progress staying right in the hip of receivers this season, but couldn't find the ball and had PI issues.
Van Smith, S (Junior) - On the small side (5'11", 195), but will come up and smack you in the mouth. A bit lost in coverage and diagnosing the play in front of him last season, but he's shown some signs of being able to sniff out a play early, and I think he's got the athleticism to cover if he can overcome the mental hurdles.
Austin Bryant, DE (Junior) - Showed a lot of promise his freshman season, particularly against Bama, but lost the vast majority of his sophomore season due to injury (metatarsal fracture). Has the size and athleticism to get on NFL radars.
Dorian O'Daniel, LB (Senior) - Rangy, athletic linebacker who hasn't been able to add much mass. his lack of size limits his NFL role to nickel LB (a role he's deployed in extensively at Clemson), most likely, but if he remedies that, he's got some more positional and scheme versatility. Went to Good Counsel.
Kendall Joseph, LB (Junior) - Stocky, instinctive linebacker. Kind of a jack of all trades, but master of none. Pretty good getting downhill after the QB, pretty good sniffing out and stuffing the run, pretty good in (limited) pass defense, and pretty good physicality. I don't think his skill set or athletic gifts will warrant any consideration of coming out early, but you never know.
Tyrone Crowder, OG (Senior) - Wide-bodied (6'2", 340) mauler on the inside. Decent feet for his size and very powerful, so he's adequate in pass pro. Not sure he has the mean streak to be an NFL mauler. I'd guess a day 3 guy is his reasonable draft upside.
Ray Ray McCloud, WR (Junior) - Highly touted as a recruit with very quick feet in small spaces, but either his explosiveness hasn't translated to the college level, or the game hasn't slowed down enough to apply it. Very good returner when he can keep his eye on the ball and catch it.
Hunter Renfrow, WR (Junior) - This is the guy that everyone says has "future New England Patriot" written all over him. Small, quick white guy with excellent short-area separation and great hands. Looking at his stature, "there's no way he can do that against NFL defenders" comes to mind, but he absolutely shredded Alabama two years in a row, and that's as close to an NFL defense has you'll find at this level. Will play in the league for a while if healthy.Last edited by Mizerooskie; 05-01-2017 at 09:45 AM.
