Interesting article. I haven't personally seen those effects, but my preferred flavor is wait to eat until lunch. I also tend to have a bunch of coffee either way. Obviously I can only speak for myself on this as well.

Great info so far guys. This is exactly what I have in mind for a forum/thread such as this. Thanks for participating thus far. I look forward to even more info going forward, no matter where this ends up. Hopefully we can find a place for it and keep it going.

So where do you guys like to work out? I was going to LA Fitness, but really want to try and start working out at home once I move into a detached house.

I wish I was working out. Been saddled with an arm injury and the only exercise I was allowed to do was walking. Added 15 lbs since getting hurt and it's getting old really fast.

That said, when I go back it will be at my local YMCA. It's literally 5 minutes from the house and has child watch. I can dump the kids there for up to 4 hours so I can get a workout and a shower with much time to spare.

I also want to start swimming. My days of running may be at an end.

That's awesome. We use LA Fitness because of the kids club. Do all Y's do that?

Around here they do, yeah. I have a "City Wide" membership and they all have child watch as far as I know.

    Re: OT. Health Nuts/Workout thread

I was a certified NASM personal trainer at one point in my life and was studying to become a Nutritional Specialist through them as well, but never finished. I'm not as apt to those matters as I was back then, but if anyone needs help with anything I am more than willing to help.

I'll just say that it all starts with what you eat.

I think Houston did a very good job of reminding everyone of the basic formula, because in the beginning it's always best to keep things simple. As you try to develop your caloric deficit, the next important thing is to maximize the amount of proper nutrition within the calories that you take in. The basic formula works for losing weight. However, you can't dictate to the body where it loses that weight from, which is why weight training is so important for sculping. The caloric deficit will lead to weight loss, and the efficient amounts of vitamins and minerals throughout your diet will aid in the definition, among many other bodily functions.

As an aside, in most cases of people wanting to complete basic body sculpting, anaerobic and aerobic training work hand in hand. For example, a woman may want to lose weight, but also develop a firm butt. Well, she can lose weight with the aerobic approach, but when she looks in the mirror, her butt may not look as firm and toned as she wants, because she doesn't incorporate weight training or explosive/anaerobic cardio.

That is why I say it's personal journey everyone goal is different what work for some won't work for others you have to find what works and it takes a lot of trial and error but diet, watching what you eat and eating right goes a looooonngg ways to making your gym life easier. Creating the body you want is 70% eating and 30% working. Think of the gym as the polish to your body and eating right is the main course.
