Devin Hester Ravens Workout - 9/2
Zrebiec just tweeted - Here's a potential roster wrinkle for Ravens: Free agent kick returner Devin Hester worked out for team today, per sources.
What are people's thoughts on this? I think it's a horrible decision - his roster spot will come at the expense of Moore, Butler, Camp (because no way we carry 8 wide receivers even if one is a return specialist).

Re: Devin Hester Ravens Workout - 9/2
It would be between Butler and Hester I would imagine.
Butler was very good this preseason, but Camp has the slot WR skillset that Butler doesn't. Butler doesn't really bring anything unique.
I don't know, we don't have a good return guy, but at the same time Hester has lost some speed. I've never been a fan of carrying a guy to be a one trick pony at the sacrifice of a skill position.
If it's me I don't keep him unless he really blows me away with his speed in the workout (and of course his return ability).
Kickoffs are becoming minute to the game with the touchbacks."Cause if you ain’t pissed off for greatness, that just means you’re okay with being mediocre, and ain’t no man in here okay with just basic.”

man this is going to be tough cut, butler has shown so much devin hester is just a one trick old pony. It's either Butler or Camp that would get cut.

I think the days of pure KR are fading. They've moved the kickoff up, moved the touchback to the 25 yard line. If a guy can't play another position or on our kicking special teams (KO/Punt) I don't see holding a spot for them.

There's no chance Moore is cut, and I think Butler is safe. He'll be around to replace Aiken next season. Other than a jet sweep, Camp has done nothing this preseason. He's far from safe and I think he's currently wr#7

Hester looked completely done last time he played. I know he's had injury issues but I just don't see Hester being an effective NFL player anymore.

Not sure who they would cut or how Hestor looked but who didn't see this coming after the Campanaro drop/fumble last night?

If he's cheap, I don't mind.
Although Walsh's system of offense can compensate for lack of talent; however, defense is a different story. According to Walsh, talent on defense was essential and could not be compensated for. What did Walsh do in 1981? He acquired physical and talented players on defense.

I don't see any problem with taking a look. If not now, perhaps down the road. Or if he lands on another team on the schedule, they'll have intel.
