What Do Find Most Annoying About Watching Football ?

We all have our teams, we all have our nemesis. Forget that, this about what just makes you lose your mind watching football coverage every year. If your annoyance includes a team you hate, that is okay, just express what specifically you loathe about the profound experience of watching football on TV, not about that team in particular. A commercial? A commentator? A specific network? I have a single example which drives me to the edge of sanity and I don't even think it has aired in a few years. I find myself chanting this mantra to myself and wife even though it drives me absolutely insane thinking about it:

    Interesting topic.

Personally, what I hate is officiating, across the board. Especially things which are judgment calls, like pass interference, defensive holding, etc. Officials are far too often involved in deciding football games.

I realize that they are necessary. I just wish that their concept of employment was significantly different.

Commercials that interrupt the flow of the game. At times, it gives a team on it's heels a much needed break. Seeing your team marching down the field only to have to stop for a commercial. Think lights out at the last Ravens SB game. Commercials should only happen before & after kickoffs and after a score. And at halftime, LOL.

Watching on the networks and they show that damn picture in picture to promote their shitty shows in the middle of plays. I'm not going to watch how I screwed your mother no matter how many times they inundate the game with it. That's on the top of my list.

Edit: and there it is on the 9ers game.

Most annoying is that it costs me $200 to watch a Ravens game... on TV!
That's right, I've got to pay up so that my wife and sister-in-law make themselves scarce so I can enjoy the game in peace. Actually, it's well worth it... nevermind... Bc

Was a Dr Pepper man since the end of the Eisenhower era

Now at Dollar Tree, I go to the case with Mr. Pibb..... one of the few times an idiot in an obnoxious commercial has made me leave a product
There are enough trolls on the internet without having to watch one in football commercials .... I vote my displeasure the only way I can, with my wallet ....
not that it is going to change some big corporation, but I don't care, I can live without their product and an glad for the mute button.

    In no particular order:

    1. Preseason telecasts that break away from the action to interview people on the sidelines or show canned interviews from training camp. I'm tuning in to see the game. Show me the game. Talk about the game. Save the other stuff for pre and post game shows and clips on websites and whatever. If the game is so boring that they think we don't want to watch it, then reduce the number of preseason games.

    2. Simulcasting the radio guys on television for the preseason. Firstly, with due respect to them, because I am sure they are all fine people, I do not really like listening to the radio guys in general as broadcasters. I preferred the old days (Still talking Ravens, so within the last 20 years, not talking about the Colts in like 1967 ;) ) when we would hire TV guys who do NFL regular season telecasts to "warm up" by doing our preseason slate, which I thought brought a better level of broadcasting talent to the table.

In addition to quality issues on TV, I would imagine that these games get very difficult to listen to on radio, because the games are called like television games and probably are often not well enough described for someone without the visual feed to always grasp what's going on, especially when they cut to interviews and occasionally move the video back to the field for a play but have the audio stick with the interview.

    3. Putting games on a wide variety of channels. I'd love to just have something where I could buy all 20 of the Ravens preseason and regular season games, plus any playoffs they play in, at a reasonable cost. And then separately buy all 12 Terps game plus any bowl or post-season games they get into. All streaming to my TV and other devices. Unfortunately, I can't.

It's spread out over a bunch of networks and requires packages on top of packages to get each game. And it's not worth it to me anymore. I cut back to a streaming service to save money and it's got some channels and not others and it's probably just going to be what it's going to be. I couldn't justify paying big money to make sure I got every game from all my favorite pro and college teams anymore, at least right now. Sometimes people have to cut back temporarily or permanently for financial reasons (Or never get the packages in the first place), and it'd be nice if there was some way to buy just the games for just your teams at reasonable prices instead of needing to buy like 220 channels to get that (Both all the various channels the teams are on at different times, and then the other channels that are totally unrelated in the packages).

Also, many people just have these huge packages for local sports and little else. If all you watch is your local teams' games, why do you have to pay for blown up packages full of stuff that you either don't watch, or would be fine replacing with Netflix and maybe a news channel? It adds expense and makes it confusing to figure out what you need to watch which games. It'd be better just to hit "Ravens" on a streaming service menu and you get all the games live plus some archived content on demand related to the team (maybe the last game, highlight videos from good seasons in the past, Sportscenter-style highlights from the previous games that season, etc.).

Other sports are even worse than the NFL with requiring odd channels in high tiers to get an odd game or two from your team where you literally watch nothing else on that tier. Not something a lot of people can sustain. But, yet, these teams do depend on the loyalty of fans to stick with them year in and year out, and I think you start to lose the loyalty if you start having to miss games.

    4. Weird blackouts. How about if you get the channel, you get the game, no exceptions? Come on, NFL. I'm not just talking the 72 hour sellout thing, I mean like the game is on NFL Network, except if you live in the local area, then it's blacked out and you need the over the air channel, and God knows if it's on CSN or not even though the Ravens site lists it. So, making sure you have one of those channels isn't enough, because you might have a blackout expecting you to watch on another channel which you may not have.

It'd be better just to have it like, okay, the games is on these channels, if you get the channel, you get the game, no surprise blackouts at the start of the game when you are 20 miles from the nearest bar.

    5. Commercial-kickoff-commercial. Enough said.

    6. Announcers who are just clearly biased in favor of the more popular teams and then always favor phantom penalties called against the Ravens or disfavor obvious penalties called against the announcers' preferred team. Call it down the middle.

    7. Announcers who are obsessed with a particular athlete who they feel can do no wrong and feel the need to tell you about constantly.

    8. Too much random stuff that doesn't have to do with football. Do I need to hear about some patriotic thing or why breast cancer awareness is important 20 times a game? No, not really. Nothing wrong with patriotism or breast cancer awareness, but let's make football about football.

The owners are gross and I hate making them money. Haslem is a straight up criminal; Irsay, Davis, and Mara are schmucks that woke up on 3rd and thought they hit a triple; Kroenke, Snyder, and Spanos come across as unlikeable humans; Mike Brown is all of the above; even Rooney made Tomlin get rid of Arians and Lebeau.

Score-Commercial-Kick Off-Commercial. Just run the commercials together after the XP or FG and be done with it. Kick off and then the offense goes. The only reason they do this is because the break would be long and you could take a piss without stressing getting back. Now they will get you for one set of commercials. But with DVRs these days you just FF through the commercials and if the kick offs are nothing but touchbacks as they are trying to force you can just skip those as well.

Review. It sucks. Stopping the game for several minutes so some old guy can jog a hundred yards to a porn both is a waste of damn time. And no challenges. You have a three judge panel at the game and if two want it reviewed either those three do it or you send it to NY for others to look at it. That is one thing MLB has on the NFL, they don't have to break for commercials to get a damn review done.
