Ghost's Post Medical ReCheck 4 Round Mock
Here’s the 2nd Mock that I produce.
The Post Medical Recheck Four Round Mock.
We get the added bonus of having the blockbuster trade change up the order of sorts with this one!
There won’t be as lengthy of commentary this time around, but I’ll be glad to expound on any questions or criticism that you might have.
Without further ado, here we go…
Round 1
1) Los Angeles Rams -- Carson Wentz, QB, North Dakota St.
They moved up to #1 for a QB and what a splash move this was. History shows us that these trades typically don’t work out for the team moving up, but maybe the Rams can break this streak. Goff’s been rumored to be the #1 guy, but I just don’t buy it...yet. My gut tells me it is still Wentz.
2) Cleveland Browns -- Jared Goff, QB, Cal-Berkley
I buy the idea that Cleveland wants to trade out of 2 if Goff isn’t there. In my Mock, he so happens to be there. Hue gets his guy.
3) San Diego Chargers -- Laremy Tunsil, OT, Ole Miss
Wow. The Chargers have been struck by luck and get the LT they’ve been seeking for a long time coming. Philip Rivers thanks the football gods above.
4) Dallas Cowboys -- Ezekiel Elliott, RB, Ohio St.
I don’t care. I don’t care. This is a Jerry Jones pick written all over it. Zeke screams superstar behind that ridiculous OL in Dallas, and I know Jones knows this. McFadden/Morris, neither of them are gamebreakers and Jones’ knows this. He’s been playing coy all along, and he gets the apple of his eye.
5) Jacksonville Jaguars -- Myles Jack, LB, UCLA
They desperately need a difference maker at the second level and Jack is that man. He’s my lovechild on this board, and it pains me to see him go one pick before the Ravens are OTC in my Mock. I could go on & on and praise the almighty Jack, but I’d rather move on…
6) Baltimore Ravens -- Jalen Ramsey, CB/S, Florida St.
It’s 4:47 AM in Los Angeles, CA. I have yet to sleep. I’m just going over reviewing my findings on the medical recheck and whatever I can find and I just keep thinking to myself: Ramsey could be our Suggs. It’s improbable. I get it. It’s super unlikely. I get it. But you can make just as strong of an argument for the 5 above teams and the players I’ve selected to them, so this miraculous draft day fall just so happens in this version of my mock. Deal with it.
7) San Francisco 49ers -- DeForest Buckner, DE/DT, Oregon
They can’t double dip on defensive linemen from the same school in the first round in back to back years can they? Oh, yes they can especially when that school is their HC’s alma matter. Buckner is a value pick here for the Niners and the Niners missing out on both QB’s go with the BPA strategy and one that fills an immediate need along the DL.
8) Philadelphia Eagles -- Vernon Hargreaves, CB, Florida
The Eagles I believe move up to #2 if Carson Wentz ends up being passed on by the Rams. I think they or the Niners are the most likely to move up for Wentz or Goff or whomever is the QB remaining. If Goff is there at 2, Niners move up. If Wentz is there at 2, Eagles move up.
In this scenario though both QB’s are gone and so is their lovechild Zeke Elliott, so they take Hargreaves to help bolster that secondary. CB is still a weak link and Hargreaves is arguably the best pure cover corner in this draft.
9) Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- Joey Bosa, DE, Ohio St.
The Buccs have been looking to solidify their DE rotation for the last several years and they just so happen to have the best 43 DE fall into their lap. Bosa is literally the best case scenario for the Buccs and their wishful thinking pays off.
10) New York Giants -- Will Fuller, WR, Notre Dame
*Same Player -- Stealing my reasoning on other Mock because nothing has changed*
I'm one who will bite on Daniel Jeremiah's rumblings that Fuller will be the first WR taken in this draft, because the moment I read that I immediately thought the Giants. I think this is the real pivot point for where we might see a WR first taken. The Giants have bolstered their defense through FA and they take this opportunity to take a player that gives them big play ability and helps lift the coverage off of OBJ on the other side. The potential nightmare these two can be to secondaries gives me a slight headache. One thing about Fuller I do appreciate about is that he has a better sense of the full route tree than most other prospects who are given the tag of "deep-threat specialist" coming out of college. I think Fuller's the sneaky pick here.
PS: In this scenario, I believe the Titans would do their best to move up to this pick to take Stanley in front of the Bears.
11) Chicago Bears -- Ronnie Stanley, OT, Notre Dame
*Same Player -- Stealing my reasoning on other Mock because nothing has changed*
The Bears need OL help in the worst of ways and I think this is a solid place for Stanley to go. Stanley provides an immediate upgrade to the blindside in Chicago. The dream pick here is that DeForest Buckner somehow falls to them, but they are happy with taking a tackle here.
PS: I legit think if the board played out the way it did, SF would be looking to move back and Chicago would be a prime candidate to move up to 7 for Buckner.
12) New Orleans Saints -- Sheldon Rankins, DT, Louisville
*Same Player -- Stealing my reasoning on other Mock because nothing has changed*
The Saints added Nick Fairley, but Fairley's never proven to be an effective full time player. Enter Rankins who's a terror on the inside and gives the Saints a potentially dangerous interior duo on passing downs with Fairley and Rankins. Rankins is the perfect prospect that fits a huge need for the Saints.
13) Miami Dolphins -- Eli Apple, CB, Ohio St.
*Same Player -- Stealing my reasoning on other Mock because nothing has changed*
The Dolphins cut Grimes and added Byron Maxwell. That's not fixing the cornerback need they already had. Eli Apple adds another long, physical CB on the perimeter to pair with Maxwell. Miami is a candidate to trade up in my opinion for Vernon Hargreaves if he falls past 8.
14) Oakland Raiders -- Reggie Ragland, LB, Alabama
*Same Player -- Stealing my reasoning on other Mock because nothing has changed*
Ken Norton Jr. loves this pick. Ragland adds some physicality in the middle of that defensive and gives them a true MIKE. I understand the concerns about him in pass coverage and his limitations to possibly being a 2-down only player, but I think he's worth the pick for the student of the game mentality he brings and the leadership he brings. I'm a big Ragland fan.
15) Tennessee Titans -- Jack Conklin, OT, Michigan St.
The Titans upgrade their OL by adding Conklin. I think Conklin can play LT, but he’d be a monster of a RT. The Titans add Conklin and bookend him with Taylor Lewan as bookend franchise tackles.
16) Detroit Lions -- Shaq Lawson, DE, Clemson
The Lions could go several different ways here, but I have them going BPA. They could use a compliment on the otherside to Ziggy Ansah, and Lawson would give them a fearsome pass rush.

Re: Ghost's Post Medical ReCheck 4 Round Mock
17) Atlanta Falcons -- Darron Lee, LB, Ohio St.
The Falcons need a playmaker at the second level and ideally the Falcons would love to see Jack’s medical drop him all the way down to 17 and they’d love to see Ragland get past Oakland which could be the case. Either way, they roll with Lee who adds instant athleticism, playmaking, and speed to the second level of their defense.
18) Indianapolis Colts -- Taylor Decker, OT, Ohio St.
Protect your investment. Irsay hasn’t been shy about the blockbuster extension he’s willing to give Luck, but if you’re wanting to invest the money in him… you’ll need to protect your investment. Decker is the best OT available and he can slide in at RT on Day 1.
19) Buffalo Bills -- Laquon Treadwell, WR, Ole Miss
The Bills need to add a compliment to Watkins in the worst of ways. Treadwell gives them a physical counterpart to the speedy Watkins. Bills simply go BPA and can’t pass up on the value of Treadwell here at 19.
20) New York Jets -- Paxton Lynch, QB, Memphis
I almost gave Lynch to the Bills at 19. The Jets still haven’t worked anything out with FitzMagic and with the stellar Pro Day that Lynch had. I think the Jets would call themselves lucky to see Lynch sitting here at 19. Especially with the top 2 QB’s gone at picks 1 and 2.
21) Washington Redskins -- William Jackson, CB, Houston
The Redskins need help throughout their defense and I remember rumblings hearing that Washington won’t draft either of the BAMA DT’s (which I think is a mistake because in this scenario Jarran Reed is still available), but they go BPA and it just so happens to be Jackson. He comes right in and competes for starting duties but can be the starting nickel from Day 1.
22) Houston Texans -- Corey Coleman, WR, Baylor
The Texans have Jaelen Strong on the roster, but he hasn’t proven anything yet. With the Texans bolstering their offense with the additions of Osweiler and Lamar Miller. Hopkins is still in need of a running mate. Enter Coleman. Some would argue he’s the best WR in this draft class. Either way, he adds an explosive playmaker to play alongside Hopkins in forming one of the best young offensive cores in the AFC with Hopkins and Miller.
23) Minnesota Vikings -- Josh Doctson, WR, TCU
*Same Player -- Stealing my reasoning on other Mock because nothing has changed*
They let go of Mike Wallace and they need to add some talent on the perimeter. Doctson adds a dynamic compliment to last year's home run 4th round prospect, Stefon Diggs. He gives them a RZ presence with his unmatched ability to high-point the football. He can stretch the field and allow Diggs to work the middle and inside of the field which is what does wonderfully. Doctson is the dream pick here for Minnesota.
24) Cincinnati Bengals -- Jarran Reed, DT, Alabama
Here’s a major caveat: I don’t think the Bengals would sit back and watch this run on receivers. They need to add a compliment to AJ Green and I could see them move up even if they overpay to secure one of the top playmakers at WR in this draft class with the WR class being so shallow. In this scenario we don’t have any trades and they go BPA. Peko isn’t getting any younger and they lack quality DT depth. Reed is the BPA and he fits a position of need.
25) Pittsburgh Steelers -- Artie Burns, CB, Miami
A little high on Burns perhaps? I don’t think so. I think Burns is a real threat to sneak into the back-half of the first round and Pittsburgh is in dire need of some help at corner. They go with the length and speed of Burns over Alexander.
26) Seattle Seahawks -- Le’Raven Clark, OT, Texas Tech
The Seahawks need to focus on improving this OL in the worst of ways. Grabbing the tantalizing Clark here at the end of Round 1 makes sense with the other OT’s taken. Clark has the length, the size, the athleticism you want in a LT. He’s a far from a polished product, but I made the mistake in my last mock having him go in Round 3. Truth is and the hype around him is he’s likely to go end of Round 1 at worst mid Round 2.
27) Green Bay -- Vernon Butler, DT/DE, Louisiana Tech
With the abrupt retirement of BJ Raji, the Packers could use some beef along their defensive front lines. Butler slides right in as a starting NT from Day 1.
28) Kansas City Chiefs -- Mackensie Alexander, CB, Clemson
The Chiefs need help at CB despite having taken a superstar in the making in Marcus Peters last draft. Alexander is a feisty cover corner who could fit right in bookending Peters in that defense. I think Burns is the real x-factor here if he actually is available at 28.
29) Arizona Cardinals -- Ryan Kelly, C, Alabama
*Same Player -- Stealing my reasoning on other Mock because nothing has changed*
The Cardinals have one weakness up front and that's at C. AQ Shipley really shouldn't be a starting center and Ryan Kelly is far and away the best C in this draft and provides an immediate upgrade. Kelly has 10-year, Pro Bowl C qualities and I think this is an ideal scenario for Arizona.
30) Carolina Panthers -- Karl Joseph, S, West Virginia
The Panthers add a dynamic playmaker on the backend. Kurt Coleman resurrected his career on the backend and Tre Boston has flashed. Joseph adds a big time playmaker on the back end of that defense and gives them a true centerfielder.
31) Denver Broncos -- Connor Cook, QB, Michigan St.
Similar situation with the Jets and Lynch. The Broncos haven’t traded for a QB yet and I think with Wentz/Goff going 1 and 2 and I believe Lynch will still go top 12-15, I think the Broncos will be lucky to get Cook at the end of Round 1.

Re: Ghost's Post Medical ReCheck 4 Round Mock
I can't see the Ravens keeping Jaylen Smith on their board. I'd have no problem with it but after last year the idea of drafting a player who you know is out and has the possibility of never playing at the same level is just too much risk.

Re: Ghost's Post Medical ReCheck 4 Round Mock
It's hard for me to leave him off my board. Until the true extent of the long term implications of his injury are revealed I just can't.
It's hard to trust the media as well.
I don't buy the contradictions put out on Jack's recheck.
If Smith is there on Day 3 at the top of the 4th -- I have a hard time not pulling the trigger unless our medical staff has given him a fail grade.

Re: Ghost's Post Medical ReCheck 4 Round Mock
I'm having an easier time finding a path for Tunsil to get to 6 than Ramsey. Just can't see the Jags taking an off the line LB with a knee over a CB, if they're graded closely, needs being equal.

Re: Ghost's Post Medical ReCheck 4 Round Mock
This would be a SICK draft for us. I would love it. Three things:
1. I don't see the Cowboys passing on Ramsey. Various reports state Ramsey is the top player on their board.
2. I don't see Cravens lasting until until the third round. He has Shaq Thompson qualities to him.
3. Even with his injury, I doubt Jaylon Smith lasts until the fourth round. He supposedly has world-class ability, and I think a team takes a flier on him earlier than where you have him being drafted with the intention of letting him redshirt during his rookie season.

Re: Ghost's Post Medical ReCheck 4 Round Mock
For the Ravens, getting Jason Spriggs in the 2nd round without having to move up would be very attractive to me; he's one of the few quality tackles who also projects to LT. Having done that, I would have an eye to move up in the late 2nd to get Shilique Calhoun. After either Deion Jones or Noah Spence fell. Would still take T Hawkins later as you did.

Re: Ghost's Post Medical ReCheck 4 Round Mock
I agree with you. Over on a Chargers' forum, some fans are finding the sunk money in tackles Dunlap and Barksdale in impediment to taking Tunsil; they don't reckon Tunsil as an immediate need, in spite of Dunlap's injury history and being "one concussion away from retirement", as they put it. I find that argument insane.
But, further, there is continued interest in Ramsey (little regard for their safeties) and Buckner. One knowledgable poster commented that GM Telesco has a history of going for filling immediate need over BPA, which keeps Buckner alive in their thinking at #3.
They nearly all want to trade back from #3, but despair of finding any takers.

Re: Ghost's Post Medical ReCheck 4 Round Mock
The Chargers don't have 1 decent safety on the roster. Ramsey if he's anything close to the hype instantly upgrades that position. They have some good corners which makes the impact even greater. I always look for players that fit teams and Ramsey 100% fits the Chargers. I'd be stunned if they don't take him.

Re: Ghost's Post Medical ReCheck 4 Round Mock
I think you have a couple guys falling here that are unlikely, but I like it. Keep drinking the kool aid man, I definitely am. More fun that way. I currently have fingers crossed for Ramsey or Jack - i put it at like a 30%-40% chance we get one of those two.
As for Jaylon Smith, if you can get him in rd. 4 I think you have to. He was a guaranteed top 5 pick, and he's already back squatting 600 pounds or some shit. The knee will heal from a structural standpoint, it's just a matter of whether any nerve damage will affect him. It's a gamble but the upside is worth it, unless they feel like there is a real steal sitting on the board at that pick. As an ND fan, this guy is the real deal.
