Schefter tweets Marc Trestman to be new Ravens OC

I'm surprised, seems to come out of the blue after all the Gase talk.

Ravens hired former Bears HC Marc Trestman as OC, per source.

At least he can claim it was the source if he's wrong

I really like it. I think it says a lot about Gase that several of his former colleagues did not either take him with them or vouch for him when they were hired at their new jobs. As for Trestman, he is called the "quarterback whisperer" and should get a lot out of Joe.

He won't be leaving in a year for a HC gig. Same offensive structure.

    Does he run Kubiak's system?

Not really but it's related in the passing game. It's very quarterback driven and gives the quarterback a lot more responsibility. Kubiak was much more running back driven. He uses the run and QB movement to set things up.

Interesting. So does that mean Forsett is out? Same zone blocking scheme?

And with the emphasis on the short pass rather than the long DPI penalty, does that mean Torrey is unlikely to come back?

Nope. Forsett is a great pass blocker. That's key when you run 3 and 4 receiver sets. He's perfect for this system.

I think it suits Torrey better too but only as a deep threat. Torrey isn't good for the short stuff and there's a lot of that. How much money are they going to put in a deep threat who might be the #3 receiver in this system? Just to give you an idea of what kind of receiver does well, go look up what Alshon Jeffrey did the past 2 years. He's 6'4 and 235 with the ability to get vertical. That's a #1 for Trestman. Torrey just isn't that guy.

Trestman has been around forever. He even coached Ozzie in Cleveland. There's all sorts of stuff you can see on him.

If it had been Gase then I have a very limited idea of what the offense would look like. He hasn't really done much beyond a couple of year with Manning and we all know that Manning runs his own offense.

im having a really hard time with this hire... i think one thing that has been proven time and time again with this offense is that we cant ask joe to throw 40 times in a game. we NEED the run to set up the pass. this is why we enjoyed so much success with kubiak. now this year we are no doubt going to shy away from that..hope to god im wrong but its just my gut feeling
