Question about Fantasy Football for Cash
Why is it that FanDuel, DraftKings, etc. are legal to play online but betting on games isn't?
I get the argument that fantasy football can be viewed as a game of skill, not chance, but why can't the same argument be made on behalf of betting on teams?

Re: Question about Fantasy Football for Cash
"Fantasy Sports were deemed a game of skill and given a special exemption from the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) of 2006. Because DraftKings and Fanduel are daily fantasy sports betting sites and do not have any betting related to the outcome of sporting events (i.e. betting on the point spread), they are completely legal.
What isn’t as well know is that the reason fantasy sports were given an exemption is because the NFL hired a lobbyist who got the exemption written in at the end of the bill. It was a smart move by the NFL to protect fantasy sports, a U.S. phenomenon, that is a multi-billion dollar industry and greatly helps to drive viewership and interest in the NFL and other sports.
How fantasy sports was deemed by our legislators to be more of a game of skill than poker will forever remain a mystery and an example of why some of our laws make no sense.""insert witty comment"
