OT - Orioles Fan Rally WTF?!

On biz travel this week in JAX. Buddy sends me the itinerary for the O's pep rallys.

Scott McGregor will host a couple.. Al Bumbry will host one.. Tippy Martinez another. And then.. drumroll please...

LARRY BIGBIE is slated to host a rally as well.

And yes, these events were sanctioned by the O's front office.

Someone has lost their marbles. Bigbie and Segui were the two ring-leaders of the Orioles heavy involvement in steroid usage spelled out in the Mitchell Report. There is no way under the sun he should ever represent the team, especially at a time like this.

Well Nelson Cruz is their team MVP this year, so maybe it's appropriate.

That made me laugh out loud.

Seriously, this is a bit of a downer. And I like Cruz. But I've been accusing the Red Sox of cheating their way to their recent titles (Manny and Papi) and now, even if we win the WS, there will be an asterisk on it for me.

It won't stop me from celebrating, but it's a shame that we as sports fans have to deal with this all the time now.

...what, were Luis Matos and Jay Gibbons not available?

There is only one Oriole IMO from that era who should host anything involving them now and that is Melvin Mora...

Well, the question I have is why are there no CURRENT Orioles players there? When the Ravens held their pep rallies, they would have current players there. I got many an autograph at team rallies in the Inner Harbor during the team's Super Bowl run in the 2000 season.

It doesn't bother me. A) Steroids weren't against the rules then B) Everyone was doing it. So even if the hitters were hitting the ball further they were doing it off juiced pitchers.

Baseball had a steroid era, so did football, it was called the Steelers in the 70's. Meh...

Still... you have an opportunity to bring in some big names from the glory years. I'm fine with McGregor, Bumbry and even Tippy.

But Bigbie was a scrub who was here for what part of 3 seasons? His name doesn't belong in the same sentence as the other 3.

    That I'll agree with.

On the steroid note, I love this line:

Now, Jay Gibbons is going to be at the one with Bigbie.
